Scalp Pimples

I heard that scalp pimples can be a sign of hairloss. I usually get about 1 scalp pimple a week, never more than one at a time. My hairline is pretty low and doesn't look receded at all and my hair is incredibly thick. There's no itching or sensativity on my scalp and my hair seems to be shedding in pretty normal amounts. Should I be concerned about hairloss?

My dad was a NW2 at 18 and is a NW5 at 50. His dad had the same balding pattern as he does, no one on his mother's side of the family ever lost any hair.

No one on my mom's side of the family ever loses their hair. The only person on that side that lost any hair was my uncle and he started to thin out a little around 55.

My mom complains of scalp pimples too and she has the same hair type I do (oily, very thick, wavey hair.) Is it just a genetic thing and not a sign of hairloss?

Yeah acne is genetic,so is sebum production....I would suggest you try Nizoral. It has really helped in improving my scalp condition by making it cleane and less oily.

Thank you, I'll give that a try. :)

Pimples are a sign of some type of hormonal imbalance occurring. First things first try dropping shampoo and conditioner all together and use a very mild bar soap for a week or so to see if things work themselves out. It could after all be a topical reaction to an irritant in your hair products (sodium laureth sulfate is a major skin irritant).

If that doesn't solve things get tested for food allergies which can be a big cause of pimples.

Of course you are only 18 and so if you are a late bloomer (puberty didn't kick in at the same time as others) then it just simply could be a matter of extended puberty. Either way that's not necessarily an end point cause it could easily be caused by something else. Considering your mother, whom I assume is no longer undergoing puberty, complains about the same thing it very well could be some external factor causing it.

It's probably nothing.

18 year olds get pimples all the time. Most people get them through their early 20s. I doubt scalp pimples is a sign of hairloss - dermatologists certainly don't list it as one.

I get pimples in and around my beard hair. Does that mean that I'm losing my beard hair? I doubt it.

You'll know when you're losing your hair because it will start to become obvious to you. I think you can relax until then, if it ever happens (which it doesn't sound like it will)
