Scalp Wrinkles - Wearing Hair System For 2 Years

Hi, I’ve been wearing a hair system for 2 years now. Last month I noticed my scalp felt a bit wrinkly and not as smooth when shaved. It looks likes lines of ridges only if you look very closely but I can feel it with my hands. This happened after a month of extreme itching (after using ghost bond followed by the extreme max bond the following month) of scalp that never happened before. But there is no redness or any kind of irritation. I’m still wearing my hair system and feel normal (no itch).

My barber installs my hair system very tight like he stretches it to maximum on my scalp and installs it so I was wondering if that caused the wrinkles?

I use scalp protector, ghost bond and use dawn to clean the scalp from bond grease.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

What type of base? Could you post a photo? Is it just a few wrinkles or the entire scalp?

It’s just a few in the middle. You can only see if it if you look closely but can feel it. It’s a poly base system. I’m sorry I don’t have any pictures since im wearing the system.

since my barber installs it tightly I feel it tight on my head as well sometimes and I get used to it. Not sure if it is because of that or any product.

quite normal with UTS / poly systems. I get this occasionally too and others on this forum have mentioned the same.

Thank you for your response. That’s a relief and also makes sense as it happened only after I changed from lace to poly. Never experienced this with lace. Thanks again!

I would have thought this would happen with lace cause it has holes while poly is all plastic flat.

By you stating you get this occasionally does this mean it's temporary? Should one switch to all lace instead of poly to avoid this if this may be permanent?

Yeah this happened with me when I was wearing a poly skin unit. Was worried the ridges would be permanent but switched switched to lace and it went back to normal and never happened again.

Try laying the system down without stretching it. It's likely that, if you stretch the system, it will try to pull back into shape and hence cause the wrinkles.

Why is he doing that? Is the piece too small and he's trying to cover more area to make up for that? That should not be necessary and sounds quite uncomfortable.

I’m not really sure. I think it’s just his technique. I will ask him not to do that next time.

I think if your barber has to stretch your hair system to make it fit, maybe the size of the system is a bit small. I use 0.08 poly base and experience small wrinkles on the base as well.

Probably, but the wrinkles I’m talking about is on the scalp and not the system base.

Does him spreading the system very tightly mean the base was cut too short? Once the base is cut, isn't your only option to spread the base as wide as possible assuming it was cut too short?

To be honest I think that’s just his technique because he’s been my barber for 2 years and I’ve used lace and poly with him and he does the same with all my systems. I’ve also noticed him do the same with other clients. I’ve done reapplication a couple of times myself where I don’t stretch it and it still fits perfectly, so I don’t think the system is cut short.

Is it possible that this is because it's already been stretched the first time?
