Proscar would be a good starting point, but if you want the best chance of regrowing your hair you'd want to get on the "big 3" (or at least just Proscar and minoxidil). The way I see it is that if you do one you may as well do it all, thus giving yourself the best chance of results.
If you're really worried about shedding maybe stagger them a bit - there's no way to tell if you're gonna shed from these treatments, and if so, how badly... A two or three week gap between starting them should be sufficient.
As for obtaining them, since I don't know where you are, I'd suggest at this stage to just get a prescription from the GP when you go. I'm not a big fan of online pharm. suppliers, but I'm sure there are many reputable ones. I'm sure someone else can advise on this.
If you want advice, the best you can do is go to a dermatologist, a knowledgeable GP, or the members of this forum. I'd only suggest going to a hair clinic if you are too lazy to make up your own regime, or you are exceedingly wealthy. I started my treatments with a hair clinic and have since found so many more options, advice and support from this forum than was presented to me when I started there.... and let's not forget the AU$4000+ I've spent so far for a measley 22 months treatment. Bah!
It all seems a little daunting at first, but once you get on the treatments, it will become a lot clearer and you can tweak your regime as necessary to suit your lifestyle and budget.

Notes: "Big 3"
1. Finasteride (Proscar, Propecia, Fincar etc.) 1mg - 1.25mg per day. Helps to stop the hairloss.
2. Minoxidil (Rogaine, Regaine, Kirkland etc. liquid / foam) 1-2ml morning and night. Helps regrow hair.
3. Nizoral anti-dandruff shampoo. Use 3 times per week, leaving in for 5mins when you do.
