hey guys this is my story

about a month ago i did the unthikable and purcahased finpecia of the web, it was strange because i kind of bought it to have it in my drawer to keep me at ease in some weird way. But anyways im almost 22 and probably about a norward 2.25 but can start to see an island formation at the front when spiked up(not when flat).

The thing is at the moment is i can style my hair so that when i go out i have no noticable loss, but i have always shedded sh*t loads of hair and i reckon now im shedding 250 a day with ease.

Anyways my main concern is that if i start the tabs that my hairloss will get worse rapidly like ive heard in some cases and obviously the other sides. Im currently studying dentistry in uni and the last thing i need coming up to my final exams is brain fog, my memory is a sieve as it is.

Ive heard a lot of young guys on here about my age startin the tabs and was wondering if they experienced any acceleration in hair loss due to finasteride.
but also a few other ????s

1/ is shedding worse when yor in the minoxidil(im not gonna touch this stuff)

2/ if i stop finasteride after say 3 months will it fuk me up?

3/will it stop recession of my temples anyway?

4? how bad are the sheds is it a hair counting thing or do you actually notice hair getting thinner in places?

cheers guys this place has been so helpful and some what of a saviour

1. Generally a minoxidil a shed is much worse. In fact, you're not even meant to shed on finasteride...I haven't yet and my Doctor says he's never had a patient who has. However, some people in this forum do complain of sheds...maybe it's a mental thing, I dunno. Shedding on minoxidil is a given. I'm glad you're not using it, it's horrible stuff.

2. No. finasteride generally takes at least 4 month slow/stop hair loss and then another 4 months before you'll see regrowth (if you're lucky enough to get it). You could take it for 2 years then stop and you'll be no worse off than what you were before you started (I don't know how they can prove this but that's what the manufacturers will tell you).

3. Difficult to say. It's generally more effective on the crown and vertex. You shouldn't be too hopeful of regrowth on your temples but wouldn't be unreasonable to expect your hair line to hold its ground for a few years (or longer).

4. Seriously, get on finasteride and don't even think about shedding. You're unlikely to shed, especially if you're already shedding as much as you say.

Get on it now...you'll regret it if you wait too long. I think once your on it you'll kick yourself for not starting earlier...it really isn't a big deal.

Excuse me? Its one of the most potent treatments on the market to fight male pattern baldness. It's the backbone of my regimen and it is working very well.

Some people might not like certain aspects of minoxidil, but to label it "horrible stuff" is an emotional claim that has very little backing in the reality of clinical science. It might not have worked for you, Skaff... fine, and I'm sorry that you weren't a responder to it if you tried it... but it works extremely well for others.

Actually i would definately get on minoxidil, if you are a responder (which you have a great chance to be) you can regrow a lot of hair, and thicken up those already existing.

If I were you, I'd get on finasteride and stay on it for at least a year before dropping it OR getting on minoxidil. This generally seems to be the view that most people have, because finasteride is known best for maintaining hair (although there IS a decent chance for regrowth). And if you wait a year, it gives you a good idea of how well finasteride works for you, whereas if you started minoxidil at the same time, you wouldn't know which is more effective for you. You also wouldn't know which to quit if you had side effects (unlikely, but good to keep in mind). You really want as much information as possible.

I never used it long enough to see if it worked. I just think the stuff sucks from a usage point of view. Maybe the foam is better. But it doesn't fit my lifestyle or most young people's, I would imagine. What do you tell a new girlfriend when you jump into bed with that crap in your hair? Or, "sorry fellas, I can't go the beach now, I've just applied my rogaine". I just hated using it and found it so restrictive. The thought of going bald paled in comparison to applying that stuff for the rest of my life. I strongly advise any new comers to this forum to use minoxidil only where finasteride fails. To commit to it without first giving finasteride the chance to work alone is a big mistake in my opinion.

But maybe waiting to see if finasteride works is a bad idea as you may loose alot more hair waiting and then be unable to regrow in certain areas with minoxidil.

You know what, I was using finpecia from feb until october, and over that period of time, I shedded more than I had ever before, and my hair overall was probably left a bit more diffuse than before, at the very least it didnt improve, I then changed to proscar and I shed less now than I did before. So assuming finpecia was real, you may well shed, if it wasn't well....proscar lol.

You know, I don't think minoxidil is that much of a hastle. Sure it forces me out of bed a little earlier in the morning to get it applied a little earlier. But I'm not so sure that's such a bad thing. I could see how it could mettle with getting laid, but you could always just miss the very occasional application. If you make 12 out of 14 applications a week, the efficacy of it's probably not going to be that hindered.

why does it interfere with getting laid? i havnt started it yet and would like to know lol, is it visible on your scalp or something? or just takes ages to dry?

Haha I mean if you se the foam it's not that visible. It pretty commonly causes a little flaky scalp so that you might get a little dandruff. Mine was real bad at the beginning, but with the use of nizoral it sloped off in a couple of weeks to just a minor hastle.

It's just the matter of bringing a chick home and mentioning that you need to go to the bathroom, only to come back to bed with a wet head smelling of rubbing alcohol (that's an exaggeration of the smell - it's okay). It's really not that big of a deal. You could miss an application here or there in the name of getting laid. Or you could just put it in like 6AM/6PM so it's not even an issue.
