Seborrheic Dermatitis, Psoriasis, And Hair Loss

I'm 18 years old and I have been dealing with hair loss for last six months. It all started around January when my scalp became super itchy all the time. I noticed a huge amount of hair shedding. My hair has slowly gotten thinner and thinner all over. I went to the dermatologist at the end of April and he told me I had seborrheic dermatitis and prescribed me ketoconazole 2% shampoo, I used it twice a week for a month and it didn't seem to help and my hair continued to fall out. I went back to the dermatologist 2 weeks ago and he now says I am devolving scalp Psoriasis (which my mother has) and gave me T sal shampoo and talconex topical suspension and it doesn't seem to help at all. My hair is always shedding, every-time I run my hand through my hair i see at least 5 hairs come out. My hair has gotten so thin over the last month even the sides and back look thinner. It looks like diffuse thinning to me. Does anyone have any experience with this causing hair loss ? Do you think I am just diffuse thinning?

I was prescribed Kenalog Spray (Triamcinolone Acetonide Topical Aerosol, USP) but it hasn't seemed to help at all.

My scalp just always seems to itch, after i use the shampoo it seems not to itch for a few hours but then it just becomes the same again. I haven't used any hair loss treatments, my hair loss started once the itching started.

in my experience seb derm is something that does not fully go away but you can try to calm it down. I notice things like lack of sleep, excessive stress, and scalp hygiene matter a lot in controlling flare ups. I've been dealing with it since puberty at about 14 and now I am almost 31 and I have tried a lot of stuff. I rotate various shampoos and it seems to help somewhat. I use nizoral, tsal (or generic), tgel (or generic), and tea tree oil shampoo (Giovanni tea tree triple treat). I have to shampoo daily or at minimum every other day or my scalp will go haywire. When inflammation acts up I will shed massive amounts of hair. Hope some of this info helps you.

Buy braggs apple cider vinegar and a 5/10ml applicator bottle/spray bottle.

In the applicator bottle put in 75% Apple cider vinegar and 25% water. Mix it up and apply to your hair. It will sting like hell for upto 10/20 seconds, but leave it in your hair for around an hour and then wash it off normally. Do this for a few weeks and your scalp eczema will be gone.

Doctors originally gave me steroids like dermovate ointment/liqud but that made my hair more oily, and the eczema kept coming back stronger and stronger. I know get very tiny breakouts every few months, but once I apply the apple cider vinegar and water, a few days later it is gone, and i'm eczema free for around 3/6 months.

Eat healthy and avoid stress. My main eczema trigger is stress. Try and get an IGE allergy blood panel done to see if you have any other allergens and then avoid them. I'm not allergic to dairy but I still avoid it, and I also avoid anything sugary.

If you need more help, PM me. Good luck.

It could just be male pattern baldness so maybe propecia or saw palmetto could help if its just from androgens causing it as it is for many men with male pattern baldness. I would try the topical steroids or different shampoos first though before going more drastic measures

I was diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis as well when I was 18. Tried a lot of shampoos but the only one that worked for me was a shampoo with clobetasol in it. I used it for a some weeks and after that i could keep it under control with keta shampoo which i still use.

I have to tell you that my hair started thinning all over and it was the start of my alopecia journey as well. I know people who just had thinning because of seborrheic dermatitis/psiorasis and they fully recovered but if I were you I would keep track of your hair so you can take measures if necessary.

cliclopirox olamine shampoo (my favorite) or ketoconazole shampoo, wont stop hairloss but seboreic dermatisis can worsen hairloss
