Seeing Physician about thinning... Advice?

I'm a 28 year old male that has always had fairly thick hair. Looking back however, it's probably safe to say that my hair has been thinning for at least the last 8 months or so -- thinning in the crown, some in front and what seems to be a part down the front center that I don't remember being there before. For the most part I can comb my hair back and wouldn't have anyone describe me as 'balding', but my shower drain is telling me differently.

I'm planning on speaking to a doctor about some preventative measures. My questions are:

I'm scheduled for a general physical... Is this something to get into then or should I make a sepperate appointment just to discuss the hairloss issue?

Will my primary care physician be able to tell if I have signs of male pattern baldness? (I guess I'm holding out hope that I'm just experience a little natural thinning that comes with age...)

In regards to finasteride, should I ask for Propecia by name? Should I be asking for a specific generic or will the doctor have a suggestion?

Thanks for any help in advance.

You'll get more help and info about hairloss from the people on this site than any doctor, most know f*** all about m.p.b nothing about topicals etc and dont like discussing drugs like dutasteride/finasteride unless its bladder related.
Infact they'll probably just tell you thats its a natural process (which it is) and tell you not to worry about it.

I've definitely found this site extremely helpful. My main purpose for trying to handle this through my doctor is insurance reasons. I also thought that there may be some baseline tests he may do in order to see if I'm reacting badly to whatever medication I end up taking. That said, I'll pursue some treatment with or without a Doctor's prescription...

hi,

You are lucky since your hair loss has just started you can take preventive measures early and cure it.
I believe in lot of natural treatments for the cure of hair loss, I would suggest along with your other treatments you could try some natural treatments which do not have much side-effects and may work well in your case as your problem is still in the initial stage.
