Hi all and first of all I'm glad to be here

I was looking at the advice on the "requesting help on thinning hair!" topic by 350z dude and taking notes, now if that's ok could you have a look at the pic and tell me if you think the advice would be valid for me too?

I think at the moment it's localised (centre of my hair line and centre of the head) but make no mistake, my dad went ompletely bald and I have a brother 10 years older than me whose pattern I'm following - so basically he's my Ghost of Christmas Future

so my questions are these:

1- is the advice on the big 3 valid for me too?
2- where do I learn about the mode of use of these substances in respect to my needs?
3- how much do these things cost?

I have lots more questions but I dont wanna bore you

thanks for looking
Fran

Big 3 will be valid for male pattern baldness. How old are you? Your hair loss seems to have advanced quite a bit. Big 3 is good at maintaining, any regrowth is a bonus.

Usage is not difficult, finasteride is a pill u take once a day. If you want something cheaper buy proscar and split it into 4 or 5. basically 150 days supply for 30 pills.

Nizoral is a shampoo, just use it as one. minoxidil is a topical u spread over the thinning area. Shouldnt be hard for you to apply.

Hi I'm 27
the big 3 don't do anything for re-growth?? Oh no! :(
Is that true??

I went to the doctors today and they don;t want to prescribe me finaster. and minoxidil as I had a seminoma years back (lucky, aren't I?)
So I'm left at the moment just with the nizoral: is it true that you must start on the 1%?

Nizoral isn't gonna stop anything, I think it's more of a suppliment to the other two.

You'll definitely want to start on minoxidil but without finasteride I don't know if it will be a whole lot of good.

Not true...look at some of the success stories and you'll see plenty of regrowth.

well, that's good to hear!
I'm waiting on a 2nd opinion by a serious Doctor as to why I couldn't have finasteride and minoxidil - the part time Doctor pretty much said "nah, may cause problems with sexual health" - since i've had a testicle removed he's covering his backside.

If my real doctor also says no I may get desperate and buy off the net, but I'm waiting for a more articulate answer from him than "nah"

have any of you guys experienced any side effects? especially sex related?

thanks again

You might want to try to find some people online who have had a testicle removed but continue on finasteride. I don't know if there are any who've posted their story, though. Be prepared to find a lot of over exaggerated stories.

Basically, finasteride sides are real, and might be a little higher than the Merck studies, but most people seem to have little to no problem. I started finasteride in the middle of May 2010, I had "ball ache" for about a week and since then, on and off, I've had some slight "groin pain"...recently I've had a couple of other minor issues but I think I'm getting through it.

Most people who have sides, if they stick through it, have their sides go away.

The biggest problem is you get a bunch of paranoid depressed people on here, then add in their hairloss, and when they take finasteride they imagine a lot of side effects that aren't really happening.

Chances are you won't experience anything. I ordered generic finasteride from InHousePharmacies. You might want to order it off there. It's legit, no prescription necessary.

You got nothing too loose id say go on the big 3 or take finasteride/propecia on small dosages but not sure about the health side of things so you may want too see if theirs any side effects.

As for regrowth well its always been said the big 3 or any of them wont grow new hairs and if you do its a extra bonus, its more about the maintainable state of your existing hairs and hair line.

In your case its bad but your hair line may look good once your hairs grown out.

I have been on the big 3 since hitting 30 and for 3 years on all 3 and I had perhaps slightly a better hair line then yourself but I have sadly not grown or shown any decent improvement more so Ive maintained what I had already. This is not too say it will be the same for yourself though you maybe one of the lucky ones :)

I myself had a testicle removed at about 13 due to testicular torsion (basically my 'tubes' were to long and one of them twisted).

I've been on propecia for about 15 months now and no noticeable side effects to speak of. Seems to be maintaining as well.

I was told after my operation that in most people one testicle is active most of the time anyway, so for us that would mean the healthy one subsidises the lost one. You should have the same hormone levels as a 'normal' person.

oh man I'm glad to hear of your experience - this takes me one step closer to give it a go even if the doctor won't agree.

I look forward to starting a regime, can't wait.
By the way Cybergod, is propecia doing anything for you?

Sorry about taking ages to reply, I don't really frequent these boards often.

Propecia seems to have just maintained for me, I haven't gotten better but I haven't gotten worse. I've recently started minoxidil so shall see how that pans out. If you have anymore queries feel free to drop me a pm or post in this thread =).

Well apparently with minoxidil you have a 40% chance of getting regrowth and with propecia \ finasteride you have a 66% chance. Try them both for a year.

I have finally started minoxidil (5% from kirkland signature) - i'm following the instructions on pack (1ml twice a day) and still using nizoral 2% twice a week - let's see what happens

thanks again for helping me on this path
