Hey y'all...this is my first ever post.

I suffer from thinning all over...I have been on propecia for about 2 1/2 yrs and am noticing a little improvement, but the thinning is definitely still continuing....especially near the front and on the crown!!!

My question is regarding shampoo. I am currently using Nizoral about once a week, but I am wondering if it matters what shampoo I should (or more importantly should not) use the other 6 days of the week...

Thnx in advance!

try and use shampoos that are free of harsh cleaning chemicals such as sodium lauryl or laurel sulfate. These shampoos might irritate your scalp.

nutragena t-gel was used in the propecia trials to promote a healthy scalp, thats what i use and a lot of the people on the board recomend. i use the nizoral a little more often maybe, i use it 3 or 4 days a week.

Thanks guys...

I will have to give the T-Gel a shot..do you know if it is avail in an everyday pharmacy???

Does anyone have any recommendations on a shampoo that will help my thinning hair look thicker (while not damaging it in the process).??

Thnx

Most of the products (shampoos) on the market contain harmful ingredients, that have the potential to cause more hair loss, i read about a new product coming out that is 100% safe and natural not like revivocrap
it also lowers DHT, i think the email is [email protected] to request more info. good luck!!

I've tried a number of shampoos, and my basic advice to you would be to use quality, salon-type shampoos. I personally have migrated to Redken, and cycle between Nizoral and two Redken shampoos. One of the two Redken shampoos I use is specifically designed to add body to thin hair. (Mind you, this is 'thin' hair in terms of the hair strands being thin, not the follicle density on the scalp.) It is their 'Headstrong' line, and it is what I use on those weekend nights before going out. I use it 2x week, and there is a 'Headstrong' conditioner that I pair with it.

If you are looking for a good basic shampoo, stuff that is good for your hair and mild, I would very strongly suggest Paul Mitchell Shampoo One. I know this because back in the days when I briefly wore a hair system this was the shampoo that ALL the staff stylists used and ordered me to use to clean my toupe with every day. On a tangental note to you all... don't ever get a hairpiece. Biggest mistake of my hair treatment history, by far. It was just stupid... an experiment I quickly ended after a very brief 4 months with it on... but that topic is for another posting at another time....

I have also become a shampoo sl*t over the last year, and aside from using my nizoral every three days I have grown fond of the good old Herbal Essences shampoos. I have used a variety of natural and otherwise unnatural shampoos and I just keep coming back to Herbal Essences. It makes my hair feel great, but I can imagine this will indeffinitely vary from person to person. I guess it boils down to what shampoos work best for YOU.

I recently just tried VIVE for men. It came out new. It's made for men that are thinning I believe, at least that's what it says on the bottle. My hair definately FEELS thicker. Looks wise, it doesn't look much thicker using this shampoo, I would say it looks just a bit thicker. Probably the best shampoo though I've tried yet. Strangely, 2nd best so far is a 99 cent bottle of SUAVE. I was thinking about trying CREW THICKENING SHAMPOO, but it's hard to find a salon that carrys that. I've tried PROGAINE, but I personally don't like it, it's very inconsistent I feel like. I guess you gotta try a bunch of different shampoos, and find one that is right for you.

Do they have clinical proof that this shampoo lowers DHT in the scalp? I bet they don't.
