Shaved my head with a 3 guard

Feels freaking great. Looks alright to, my girlfriend loves it.

I think some guys look better with the shaved down look instead of having it longer and trying to hide their loss.

Especially if your in the Norwood 3 area like me.

There was a guy waiting in the front for his turn and he looked so freaking ridiculous with his "I am hiding my hair loss" look. I felt bad for him. He was dearly hanging on and he just looked awful.

Sometimes its better just have a cut that shows yours loss.

The irony is I dearly want to shave it down with a 1 guard but shaved heads that close look way better on those with a full head of hair stubble.

Good move shaving it, it's so liberating when you first do it. If it feels great and your girlfriend likes it then thats great news and I assume you'll keep it that way for a while. Perhaps you could try shaving it down to a 2 if you want it a bit shorter but dont quite feel up to shaving a 1. Thats how I did mine, just took it down in stages.

Yeah I had to take a deep breath and I was too nervous to do a 2 guard. I am keeping it this length indefinitely, maybe a 2 next time.

So you buzzed it then right?

How long is a 3 exactly is a 3 guard? 3 MM?

Yes it is buzzed. Not sure how to explain why they call it a 1 2 or 3 guard exactly. It's about 1/3 an inch all around. Really short.

If my clipper guards are labeled correctly, a 3 guard is 3/8 of an inch (about 10 mm).

Yesterday I cut mine down to 3/16in (about 4.5 mm) for Spring Break. It's amazing feeling, and I think I have the facial features to be able to pull off the look of a close buzz if I want to keep it this way, I just need to get the newly exposed scalp to be a little more tanned to match the rest of my face.

So Cassin, does the Aveda thickening shampoo (or whatever you are using) still have a benefit with that short length of hair?

I think I do to, for now. Different story when its all gone down the road.

Not as much, no. Simply not enough hair. But I am sure the thinner areas would like horrible in the wrong light if I didn't use it. I am a Norwood 3 so things like aveda make a difference.

Now I said it before, the flash does wonders, it doesn't look that bald from the back. It does blend in well though. You can definitely still tell I'm balding, but not as bad as before!

I was just going to try it out just to see if I like it. But now I'm thinking about sporting this look until I'm completely bald.

Thanks. Sorry I didn't mean to take over your thread. I just wanted to get the point across that my hair has always been at least 5-6 inches. My bangs usually come down to my nose and the back usually drags down below my collar, so this was a huge step for me. Plus I have curly hair and now obviously I can't enjoy that either. It took me no time to adjust to this new look. I'm satisfied, and that's all that matters.

No please don't apologize. Thats what all of these threads are for, the title is just a starting point and they go wherever. I am glad you posted your pics.

Yeah I was a tad stunned when she was done, its still going to take me some time to get used to this as well but I am sticking with it.

Vartex,

My hair is similar to yours from what I can tell. Are you diffuse? I've been using Spectral DNC (front) and Rogaine foam (on the back) since November as well and I've noticed more on the DNC areas so far. Doesn't mean the foam won't work I just think the extra stuff in the DNC helped things kick in a bit sooner.

Is your last picture shorter than the 1st too? It looks like it sort of but I'm not sure. Maybe it's just because I was expecting a before and after but you said you normally have it 5-6 inches long. Since I'm diffuse, my hair actually looks better when it is longer.

You don't have a regimen posted, but are you using anything else besides the foam? No Big 3?

By the way, no offense but are you Indian? Just curious as I work with quite a few and you look like you could be, very nice people!

I have always wondered if such a thing matters. Obviously it does if your evaluating your results correctly.

I am quite certain this varies from person to person based on their skin and who knows how many other factors.

Certainly the treatments spread "x" amount of inches under the skin so the area in the middle will overlap in your case. How much the treatments spread on the scalp is a huge question I doubt we will ever be certain of. Who knows, maybe we only need to be using a dime sized blot of treatments every 4 inches on the scalp. 3 bottles of rogaine foam could quite possibly last us a year.

I always wonder if I am using too much or too little of my treatments.

Those 3 pics are of the same length taken within seconds. Before Friday I've never had such short hair in my life! Right now I'm only using Rogaine and flaxseed oil. I'm not really interested in Propecia and I don't use Nizoral as of yet.

I don't know what diffuse is, so I'm not sure if I am or not. I've never heard of the DNC before, what is yet and how do you use it? If it would help me I would love to start on it!

And yeah, I am Indian. That's pretty impressive because usually people confuse me for being European.
