Shaving daily, good or bad for skin?

I've seen both ends of the argument. Some people say shaving daily is good because it helps exfoliation while others say it irritates the skin. Any ideas?

I read an article recently indicating that the micro-damage sustained by your skin on a daily basis from shaving aids in cell turnover and may help keep your skin looking younger.

First and the foremost thing that I will like to say is that the skin of people differ and so the results would vary from person to person. So , it is always beneficial to try such things on your won and see what your skin is comfortable with. As for me shaving daily helps me have a better look.

I don't think shaving daily is bad or good.I think it varies from person to person. Some person feels bad for their skin while some persons feel good.

I have super sensitive skin. i used to get monster razor burn.

I bought an electric razor and some disposables with only two blades and a mirror for the shower.

I slob on some hair conditioner (ONTO MY NECK AND FACE) and glide the electric over my neck and face, then apply gel and use the disposable. Slide on some alcohol free aftershave and I get a close smooth shave daily.

Being able to shave daily has made my skin less sensitive and YES SHAVING DAILY WILL EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN AND KEEP IT HEALTHIER LOOKING.

Does it make a difference if you use a blade or an electric shaver?

yes. Electric razors tend to cause more irratation. This is becuase one: Its more difficult to shave in the direction of the hair with an electric shaver and Two: electric shavers tend to "pull" the hair while cutting it, causing irritation. I never use electric shavers becuase they cause me to break out badly.

Shaving every day can: Increase oxygen availbility to the surface of the skin, which is bad for microbes, allow an easier time for oil to be washed from the face, and keep irritating hair off your face. Yes, unless the hair is long or just stuble, there is a length where the hair will cause irritation itself.

You must always shave in the direction of the hair, to avoid in grown hairs. If you find that you break out in one spot on your face in your bread area, take a close look at the direction the hair grows in that area, you may be surprised to find that that hair grows in a different direction than other hair around it. Single blade "old school" razors are the best for people who have lots of areas on their face where hair grows in different directions, as it allows the greatest flexibility in its movement, unlike the standard bic style blade square heads and multiplue blades(ie. mach 3, or fusion etc.)

The mach 3 turbo works best for me for some reason the vibration helps alot.

Long time back my grandpa told me that facial hair protects your skin from sun damage similar to your hair.He grew a beard every once in a while since he was an artist and I have to admit he looked about 10 years younger than he actually was.

I usually shave in the shower on a daily basis (single blade) and my question is does the small cuts and abrasions I occasionally get increase the chance of internalizing products such as ketoconazole. My sop is to apply nizoral. 1% immediately upon entering shower...brush teeth..shave and wash... all the while nizoral. is in hair. last thing I do is rinse out nizoral. Just wondering..I know off topic but I also get many small cuts and scratches on hands from my job...would that increase internalizing risk as well. I use several diff. topicals! :dunno:

I wouldn't worry too much about that.nizoral wont cause any harm through small cuts in your face or fingers. If you are afraid of applying it when you have cuts in your fingers, try applying with rubber gloves for protection.

scratching the dead skin cells on the surface of your face does not cause aging. If you see red, it is bad. If it hurts, it is bad. Some guys can shave more than others. And some pay good money for exfoliation that some guys get from shaving.

If you get red bumps or irritation while shaving, stop using little kid shaving cartriges.

I swapped to a safety razor 2 months ago and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made.
