Hi!

I have hereditary hairloss problem. It's been almost 1 year i was trying natural lotions to prevent my hairloss. But i've noticed that these natural lotions are noneffective for hereditary hairloss. So now i'm starting on minoxidil therapy but i see some comments that say starting minoxidil for the first time may cause increase in hairloss. now i wonder if i shave my hair before applying minoxidil on my scalp for the first time, is that going to be usefull?

appreciate to any comments.

it would be useful because if you do get a temporary shed you wont notice it as much than if you had longer hair and you wont waste any on hair rather than scalp.

are you on a dht inhibitor like propecia because minoxidil alone wont save your hair.

I'm not on finasteride, because i am worrying about side effects of these pills. i wanted to see the minoxidil effect on me first, than if i see that it's not possible to prevent hairloss i'm going to try other methods. maybe it will be late for me to compensate the shed hair, but i don't know, i'm little bit confused. :)

thank you

side effects are very rare if you are to believe clinical trials where the research participants are reluctant to report side effects for fear of getting thrown out of the study or being harassed by the clinicians.

i speak from first hand knowledge being a paid guinea pig with more than a few (namely 4) research trials under my belt (and I have taken an interest in asking my fellow guinea pigs if they report side effects or not...)

my advice to you is to use something other than minoxidil, but keep in mind there are plenty of things you can try that don't involve taking medication. look in the New Research and Discoveries section

Hey there Biococuk.

I ran into that same dilema myself. I had been on Propecia for over 8 years, switched to Avodart and to Minoxidil. I was NOT prepared for Minoxidil shed whatsoever, about three weeks in I was horrified..I put a hat on, went to local hair salon and I bought a pair of industrial style clippers. I shaved me head as soon as I got home. I applied Minoxidil twice a day with a shaved head. As the hair was growing back, it was amazing. I felt like a Chia-pet.

If you have the opportunity to shave your head...do it.
