Short hair bad for you??

After reading tons of posts on here, I came across a few posts by someone that says really short hair makes male pattern baldness worse. Something about longer hair is better so the sebum has somewhere to go, yada yada.

Goes on to explain that the back and sides aren't as effected because your head rests there when you sleep and the sebum soaks in or something like that (sorry, didn't read thoroughly as it was a bit long winded).

No one really responds to this guy, strangely. No discussion positive or negative. Usually there is some flaming going on, but when it comes to this everyone seems to ignore it. Any thoughts on this? I know I'm grasping at straws but if this is true I'm seriously thinking of sleeping with a skull cap on lol=) no seriously.

It's an interesting theory but I don't think it would pull any weight within the male pattern baldness world. Short hair long hair, it does not really matter how your hair is because it will still be attacked by DHT.

Certeanly there is not a good discussion about this aspect.
This is my theory

In this web there is the full work published in Medical Hypotheses Journal.
In the section of "Scientific data and pertinents trials" I expose the tonsure as a unique form to develope common baldness in healthy individuals. Blocking the flow of sebum towards the base of the hair follicle could be the first negative physiological effect in the disease. The lenght of the hair could prevent the male pattern baldness or FPB.
Best regards

My opinion is that where DHT arrives, it destroys. People say that the hair from the back is stronger than those in the front, I doubt it. For me, the hair from the back doesnt go bald because DHT didnt get there yet.

About this sebum stuff. I wash my head 3 times a day. So, would that help?

I think the reason everyone ignored it is because it's obviosuly false. I usually do something like this  when I read them. However someone new to hairloss could easily beleive these crazy theories. No need for the skull cap in bed my friend :)

shosho :thumbdown2: I think you need to do a little more reasearch on how DHT works... There are some good sources if you go to the gourmetstylewellness.com homepage. :study:

Crazy theories? LOL!!

I was just mentioning crazy theories yesterday here!! here's just a few that have passed through here at one time or another:

--Sink water is better for your hair than shower water!

--Short hair is bad for male pattern baldness- keep it long!!

--Sleeping upside down will increase bloodflow to your head, therefore reducing male pattern baldness!!

--Massaging your temples will help re-grow your temple hair!!

--Shaving your hair will make it grow back stronger and thicker, therefore reducing the signs of male pattern baldness!!

--Wearing hats cause you to lose your hair!!

--Certain shampoos affect male pattern baldness!!

these are all insane theories, but many people still swear by them, the same way they swear that Hitler is still alive and actually murdered Elvis Presley

Irrelevant

Long hair could be preventive in certain person for male pattern baldness. Persons with dense and thick hair don't develop common baldness because there is a good transversal sebum flow, even with short hair.

--Sleeping upside down will increase bloodflow to your head, therefore reducing male pattern baldness!!
Irrelevant

--Massaging your temples will help re-grow your temple hair!!
Massage could be important to movilice sebum, but don't regrow hair.

--Shaving your hair will make it grow back stronger and thicker, therefore reducing the signs of male pattern baldness!!
In body hair could be, but in hair scalp make worse the male pattern baldness.
--Wearing hats cause you to lose your hair!!
Normally don't. It was postulated in early last century by Sabouraud, but IMHO is irrelevant.

--Certain shampoos affect male pattern baldness!!
Certainly.

Best regards
Armando

shaving is not such a bad idea...

shaving the head actually results in thicker hair but stronger...I doubt!!
It can actually be a good ploy in the sense that for a few months one does not bother about couting the hair flying of the scalp, the topical treatments like minoxidil are easier to stick to and the hair that grows back is thicker and thus can cover more of your scalp.
