short spikey hairs in between long hairs

Hi all:

Had a quick question. I've noticed, when I run my hand through my hair, that on the surface of my scalp there are lots of strong small spikey hairs. I don't mean my usual hair, which is much longer (an inch or two). Anyone seen this before?

It could be one of several things:

1) Normal. There are always some short spikey hairs regrowing but you never notice them until you become obsessed with hair.
2) A negative sign. You notice these hairs BECAUSE you are losing more hair than before you started balding.
3) A positive sign, i.e. this is regrowth and you'll soon have more hair.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Jay

Hmmm.. I have hundreds/thousands of them all over the top of my head. I'm thinking it's just fallen hairs regrowing thinner.

I have the EXACT SAME thing,

I couldnt figure out what it was either, but my hair really looks thicker and fuller, so i am hoping it is a positive sign. I too was worried that maybe it was more noticeable because hairs i previously had fell out.

I am really not sure what it means, but i know for sure i never had this before,

Can you feel this short spikey hair when you gently massage your scalp with your finger tips.

If it is then I think it's a good sign. I also think everyone will have this also. It's just hair growing..

Actually, I experienced the same thing a few years ago and thought it was regrowth. I learned that it wasnt. Well, I was regrowing, but that spiky feeling when you run your hands through your hair is nothing more than the hairs folding over. What you feel is the point where they bend. Unless you can see a bunch of short spiky hairs on your scalp between your normal length hairs, then that is all you are feeling - bent hairs. You'll feel this any time you have longish hair.

Jury is out on this then. I will try and post an update in this thread a month from now, at which point those small hairs should have grown to normal size if indeed it is regrowth.

Hopefully that will help us come closer to answer. My opinion at the moment is that it doesn't mean anything.

Jay

PS: that's an interesting theory 20somethingtoo, but unless I'm going crazy and my sense of touch has gone berserk, these are definitely small hairs, not just bends in longer hairs.

Iv been on the big 3 for around 3 months and can defo feel short spiky hairs on my scalp between the longer hairs (feel like stubble).

Lets hope it new hairs growing or old ones thickening up again!!! :freaked:

Good idea actually.
For those of use who are diffuse thinners, you cut your hair real short or even buzz it and you will be very happy to find out that you still have all your hair. It can be a real confidence booster. Seriously.

I agree with that as soon as i had my hair cut shorter not buzzed. It made a massive difference and made it look more fuller.

yep, you're right. after scrutinizing and analyzing, that's waht I came up with too, but who's to say that some of that just may be some new hair.

After more thorough investigation, im gonna take a different stance on this. I was feeling my hair on the crown for the spikey hair (which is what I feel) but could be hair folding over as well like someone mentioned earlier. I can't really inspect back there like I can the front. Wherever I part my hair, I see a bunch of dark small spikey dark hairs all over between the long hair.

They are hard to actually 'feel' however. Inspect the fron is the best way to gauge what's going on with new hair. Not only do I have all those short spikey hairs, but my hair has really thickened up in the past week, so Im looking at even more thickening in the next month or two. After that, im guessing I'll have a shed and have that hair regrow even thicker and stronger while sprouting new hairs all over.

Had a lot of work those stubbly hairs in my first 4 months on finasteride and minoxidil. Haven't felt them in the 3 following years. I think it's regrowth.
