I got prescriptions for both. Are there any differences? Should just buy cheaper generic since it's finasteride that matters most? Can i take generic 1 month and then propecia or another generic next month or do i have to stick to one?

If price isn't an issue then go with the name brand stuff. Personally I like saving money so I went with generic and have gotten results.

Name brand is 1mg finasteride.
Generic is 5mg finasteride (usually) since it is supposed to be used for enlarged prostates. You then need to cut it in 4 pieces and take one daily. The price is much much cheaper. And it is the same compound, so it doesn't make sense to buy name brand unless you don't care about money.

Does it really apply though? I was prescribed a specific propecia-like medicine that is only 1 pill per day. I guess every generic is different?

So there aren't really any differences? The medicine i was going to buy instead of propecia is over 50% cheaper but it's like an unknown (new) finastride generic

brand name pharmaceuticals even in the absence of a patent is economically smart of a pharmaceutical company, because you get dumb people who will pay significantly more for them over generics because they are paranoid, even though generics are literally the same exact thing with a different name slapped on them

The drug itself is finasteride. Propecia is the brand name of a 1mg finasteride pill. Proscar is the brand name of a 5mg finasteride pill. Getting generics just means you're getting finasteride from some random pharmaceutical lab instead of the company that originally had a patent on the drug. You can get generic 1mg or 5mg pills. The quality of generics should be just as good and usually cost significantly less. I'm currently cutting up generic 5mg pills.

I have used both generic and propecia. Noticed zero difference..! I've been on generic finasteride for almost a year now. I have had zero sides. Actually I use Proscar and I have great results with generic.
