Hello,
I would like to share my story and maybe get some help from you guys.
First of all my english is abit sloppy so please don't mind that...

First of all, my name's Gal , I am from israel and I am 21 years old
At the ago of 18 I started noticing my hair is changing , becoming thin while my crown is starting to get a "V" shape
Today i am 21 years old, not much had changed but i decided to start treating it as my father got bald at around this age.
I started taking propecia about a month ago, at first everything was fine, but around 2 weeks after starting i noticed a few things:
*My hair loss is increasing (which i heard is common and shouldnt be an issue.)
*had a hard time to get a boner (and even if i succeed it wasnt a full boner and it would be gone after a short time)
*I c*m less. (I mean at least 5 times less as normal, and im talking about my sperm not amount of times i do it.)
*Last couple nights my testicles were aching

At first i noticed it after 18 days of treatment and decided to stop taking it, after 4-5 days of break things improved by far and i decided to give it another chance since hair has a huge importace on my life and now it has been around 8 days later (took 26 pills since the very beginning so far) and the side effects returned.
I want to ask for your opinion, i know some of you dont like it and some do, but the most of you did try.

My questions are-
1. Does the side effects supposed to go away?
2. What are the chances to have done pernament damage to my body if i took it less then a month?(i mean like life-lasting side effects)
3. Could all of this be psychologic? No doubt i am super stressed by it.
4. What should I do? Does the more i use it the more it would take me to get back to normal after quitting?

please help..
Thanks!

Many men can't take propecia. Not because it gives them side effects. But because they think it gives them side effects. Here's what I think you should do. Try it again for two weeks. Stay off hair loss related sites and propecia related sites. Don't paranoia masturbate (masturbation for the pure purpose of seeing if it still works properly). You should only be masturbating when you are horny enough to not think twice about it. Your body will have more testosterone. That could explain some of your sides. But if you are still not able to deal with being on the drug after giving it an honest fair shot then it is possible you are in the minority of men that actually do get side effects and gracefully quit the drug.

No doubt you are right about most of what you said -
i did visit lots of forums and sites and it made me stressed by far, i did force myself to masturebate in order to see if i suffer from the side effects even tho i wasnt horny at all.
But im affraid that if i do continue the chance of suffering from long time side effects is increasing.
Maybe i should start taking half a pill a day?

i got sides, it has imoproved as time has passed, dont freak yourself out about permanent sides. it is very very rare. finasteride has a flat dose response curve from .2 mg onwards, but still go ahead and do it if it gives you peace of mind(thats what i am doing :p). best of luck man, hope things work out for you and i couldnt agree more with what dark link said.

What about the testicles ache? Should i be worried?
And thanks all for respondind

Do you really have testicle ache? I find that my testicles ache a couple times a week whether I'm on finasteride or not. If you really want an explanation to why your testicles are aching I can give it to you.

There are many causes. Let's start with why finasteride might be causing it. You are over masturbating. You are paranoid your genitals will stop functioning and so you paranoia masturbate. This causes your testicles to work harder to produce the extra semen. You are fatiguing your boys. Finasteride causes an increase in testosterone. With 9 - 20% increase in testosterone your boys are also going to produce more sperm. With all of this extra sperm production you also will have a smaller prostate to hold the sperm in the future. This may cause you to actually need to masturbate more than typical. I would quit looking up p**rn and sexually stimulating yourself. You will be plenty horny enough without all of that stuff.

Now the real reason why our testicles ache. Rough sex is one. Over masturbating. Sitting a prolonged period of time. Especially if you are sitting looking up propeciahelp stuff online. Wearing too tight of underwear. Sitting in a way that causes them to be scrunched up.

Now for the real truth. The rate of testicle ache is no more than the placebo when compared to people taking finasteride. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Seriously, give it a shot, stop asking questions, and see what happens without you worrying over it. If you can't stop worrying I will tell you what will happen. Right now your hair is probably somewhat decent. Once you start getting to NW4 or more you are going to be regretting not giving finasteride a shot and wish you didn't quit over a small amount of testicle ache that may or may not have been caused by the drug. Take it now and keep your hair. Don't be put in a position where you are trying to save hair that cannot be saved down the road.

First of all, thanks alot for the respond, i can tell you put time on it, so i appriciate it.
Secondly, after i read these posts my panic decreased and i guess due to that i had some nice full boners today, my sperm went back to how it was before and my testic ache is gone. I only hope the finasteride will work because so far im using it for a month and my hair loss is only getting worst. I am down to 0.5mg a day as some ppl suggested, what do u think about it? Should i keep this way?

Yes I think you found your happy medium. .5 mg should still be effective and there does seem to be a bit of difference in the amount of dht blocked at that dose. Maybe that little change makes all the difference.

Please elaborate.

Everything in that post was wrong.

Testicular ache is not nocebo, it's very real. Testosterone increase will not make him produce more sperm, sperm counts go down on finasteride. The prostate does not hold sperms.

Testicular ache happens on and off finasteride. It's common for most men to get it. The difference is you become paranoid about it when you take finasteride. Testosterone does increase sperm production. I wasn't talking about sperm count :p We aren't measuring how many millions of baby batter dudes per ml here. The prostate holds seminal fluid that end up in your ejaculate. The shrinking of this does have an effect on your semen volume which does indeed go down.

I got testicular ache on the first pill without knowing about it, it lasted a good 2-3 months before it went away. There is an underlying reason why that happens. So it isn't mental in any way, sometimes I'd jump off the chair from the sudden twitch.

Yes, testosterone stimulates spermatogensis, but in the case of finasteride, that small increase is offset by 5-AR II inhibition which is also important for spermatogensis, leaving you with around 20% less sperms than before. I don't understand what difference there is between sperm production and sperm count in your view?

There was reduced volume in semen, not sperm count. There is a difference. Or maybe I've got it all wrong. From the FDA studies I've read it said finasteride does not reduce sperm count or cause spermatogensis. Did you paranoia masturbate after your one pill? There is no way your testicles will ache for a month after taking 1 pill. Something else was causing it. Food sickness doesn't even last that long dude. Finasteride can be dangerous for some people but that's going overboard. All I know is I've got friends that never have taken finasteride and they complain about testicle aches too. My cousin had to go to the hospital once and I know he doesn't take finasteride. Testicle ache happens to me on a regular basis even though I haven't taken finasteride for 2.5 years because I have an office job where I sit prolonged periods of time. Look up online what causes testicle ache. Anything from too much sitting, to tight underwear can cause it. Does finasteride cause testicle ache??? maybe, maybe even probably. Do people get nocebo effects when taking finasteride thinking they got testicle ache?? 100% yes!

Fear can do wonders to a person's psyche. Let's say someone has contemplated taking finasteride for a year. They are really worried about the risks. Though they want to take a chance. The second they swallow that pill great fear is going to overcome them. They will worry themselves insane. Any small sensation in the testicle all of a sudden becomes the entire focus of their psyche. Then it over exaggerates what is really happening to them. Then they paranoia masturbate 7 times just to make sure their boys still work over and over again.

There was both reduced semen and sperm counts. But the sperm concentrations stayed almost the same obviously. Spermatogensis means sperm production.

No I did not, I said it happened after the first pill, but I didn't stop taking it and it lasted almost three months before going away gradually. The reason testicular ache is common has to do with finasteide inducing a HPTA mechanism similar to secondary hypogonadism where LH and FSH levels are theoratically increased/decreased to balance the ratios of T/E/SHBG and androgenicity at the tissue level.

I know what nocebo is. Testicular ache does NOT fall under nocebo. Neither will chronic masturbation induce testicular pain to my knowledge, not that it matters anyway.

Good post. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/epididymitis/basics/definition/con-20032876

Interesting to note that dht does play a role in the epididymis. Maybe blocking dht shrinks the epididymis similar to the prostate causing some discomfort when semen travels through it. Overmasturbation while on finasteride would excacerbate that discomfort.

Either way most men can tolerate finasteride. And take it for many years fine. And it's totally worth whatever small minor changes the drug may have to their bodies to be able to keep their hair. For some of us though the pain is intolerable and not worth tinkering around with your prostate and foreskin etc.

Hey man, best bet is to try the drug and see for yourself, many, many people don't get side effects. A lot of those who do can simply cease treatment and give 2 weeks - 1 month for everything to go back to normal
