Hello.... i am a 27 y/o guy whom is pretty worried he is wasting his time with propecia. I noticed my hairline thinning at age 20. I did absolutely nothing about it until about 23 where i tried propecia 1mg for about a year. (my father started balding at 23 so i got worried and did the finasteride 1mg) I didnt see much of a difference, so i came off it. When i came off it i didnt really see a major difference, except that my libido came on very strong. When i turned 25 or so my doctor convinced me that it is PREVENTATIVE to take the propecia, even though you dont see any true balding (at the crown) (The hairline has been very slowly receeding). Is it too premature to start taking propecia?? I am tired of taking a pill everyday, im worried about long-term side effects such as cancer. My hairline has continued to reeced (im at a norwood two) I have very slow male pattern baldness.. Do you think maybe i should come off the propecia and just do Rogaine or is propecia the best "maintenance" drug out there. I dont need to regrow any CROWN hair, just my hairline..?!?! ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated.
Also, i just started taking Nioxin 2% (prescription) for my dandruff.....
thanks so much!!! [email protected]

Finasteride not only maintains, it regrows hair in some. (As it did for me...although I no longer use it.)

It'd be my guess if you are receeding on Propecia you will really recede without it, if all you would do is use minoxidil in its place.

I have been on Propecia for about 11 years. I have more than done my part to reimburse Merk for their efforts. Additionally, I am really growing tired of taking (and paying) this product. My doctor (not the one whom initially prescribed me) and my wife (whom I hadn't met before I started taking Propecia) tell me it is a waste, that I really do not show any signs of male pattern baldness. In my early 30's however, it seemed pretty clear to me that the top of my head was definitely thinning. No bueno.

Right now I am at a proverbial fork in the road. Do I stop taking Propecia or not risk the consequences and go with a generic???

Comments are welcome :)

Erroneous!

Go with a cheap generic (like Finpecia or Fincar), man. Experiment a bit. Maybe cut your dosage, and see if anything changes. Make sure to throw in Nizoral a few times a week, as well. You could always get your hair mapped for miniaturization, if you wanna be 100% sure.

I want to look good when the Martians come to take me away in their big silver spaceship. What freakin difference does it make why I want to maintain for current follicle situation.

The question was actually aimed at someone with constructive advice. Specifically if anyone has taken Propecia and stopped. What has been their experience?

The question is how much hair will you you lose when you drop it. Within a year or so you will look like you had never taken propecia so that means you could either have recession or maybe even a Norwood 3 pretty fast.

Look into having your doctor writing you a prescription for proscar (generic) and cut it into 4ths. A years supply will probably run you the cost of 3 1/2 bottles of propecia.

You're tired of taking a pill everyday!? That is like the most easy thing in the world to do just open your mouth and swallow. You should try adding Rogaine Foam twice a day to your regime! Now thats annoying.

And on your cancer question, a study has showen that Finsteride reduces the risk of all Cancers but most specifically Prostate cancer.

Fair enough, more to the point, I would like to stop paying so much money if it is not absolutely necessary to do so (meaning if I discontinue the regimen, will I lose the stuff on my head). I am certain the only answer is to try it out.

I did however, oder some generic Proscar from In House Pharmacy. I'm a little spooked by the source, but from what I have read others have had good experiences.

Bottoms up :punk:

your doctor and then to any various pharmacy.

I get my generic proscar from walgreens

Is generic 5mg finasteride just made by Teva Pharmaceuticals (as well as Merck, obv) or is there now a free-for-all on generic 5mg finasteride?
