Should I increase from 0.5mg to 1mg?

I've been taking 0.5mg of Finpecia for over a year now. I weaned onto it taking it a few times a week, the EOD etc.

My crown seems to have stopped thinning and maybe thickened up slightly. I seem to have lost all the thin light hairs on my head and my hair looks darker.

My hairline seems to have thinned slightly on one side (the right side has been mature my whole life) and it's as if the left side is thinning in the same way. I really don't want it to though.

Do you thinking bumping up to 1mg would help my hairline more? Or maybe even make it go thinner? I wouldn't mind a slightly mature hairline but I have a high forehead as it is and can't really pull it off if it recedes 1/2" or so.

I really doubt bumping it up will make it go thinner. If anything, it will help.

I've read that taking .05 mg of finasteride is nearly the same as taking 1 mg, but personally, doctors (in my case) always recommend at least 1 mg, so I wouldn't go for less than that unless I experienced sides (which I don't). I'd say bump it up, if you don't see anything new coming along, you can bump it back down again.

I'm not sure how much finpecia costs, but if cost is an issue with increasing your dosage, remember about proscar. It's really cheap! I take proscar, it's 1.25 mg, but I haven't had any issues with taking a dose in excess of 1 mg.

If you aren't experiencing side effects then it is worth a shot. Apparently 1mg isn't that much more effective but it might be enough for you to be noticeably beneficial.
