f*** that doctor on keeps.com and f*** finasteride for now. Think about it,your brother went bald by 20 and here you are,30 and with a lions mane. Unfortunately for your brother,he lucked out and inherited the balding genes while you still have your hair at 30. Looking from your pics now and 4 years ago, absolutely nothing has changed. You're doing the right thing by visiting a derm and getting your hair checked for miniaturization. But please, don't even think about any hairloss medication for now. You literally have top tier hair for your age, heck even by any human standard you've awesome hair. Recession or not, nothing has changed for the past 4 years. You're safe. Infact,I feel sorry for your brother who has to look at your hair everyday. :p:D

@Seeker988 Thanks, man. Yeah, I don't have delusions of having advanced male pattern baldness or anything, but I just want to be cautious and aware because I honestly love my hair, and if it was in danger of being destroyed by those pesky androgens I would want to take extra precautions, even if that means taking meds for the rest of my life to keep it, but I definitely value the opinion of the derm over the Keeps doctor, which is why I've held off taking the finasteride. You hear horror stories of guys with good hair getting hit by male pattern baldness within a year or two, especially after 30, but it's entirely possible some random feat of genetics shielded me (my hair line seems to be more like my dad's side), but that has to be pretty rare for an older brother to go bald so quickly and so young and the younger brother to have almost all of his hair by my age and be able to keep it (the source of my worry). I just want to be proactive and smart, you know? And yes, lol, my brother is a little envious, but he rocks a shaved head really well and has a much better beard than I could ever hope to have.

Infact it's pretty common and not unusual for one brother to lose hair and other one remaining unscathed. Same is the case with my brother,he is losing his hair whereas I'm not and he's got an amazing beard whereas I can't grow more than a few shitty squiggly hairs on my cheeks. It'll be better to go to a derm in order to calm your anxieties but I'm damn sure that you'll be told that you're totally fine. I can't fathom how that doctor suggested you to take finasteride. And for people with good hair, finasteride is very risky as it has been known to first cause a heavy shed and then stabilize your hair. That's a risk worth taking for guys who've lost quite a bit of hair but in your case you have all the hair that you could possibly have. You'll have a good chance of losing a lot of hair if you take finasteride without having hairloss.

@Seeker988 Yeah, that's definitely been my only concern— if, say, whatever hormonal proclivities I have that have fended off advanced male pattern baldness so far are somehow disrupted by finasteride if I'm not, in fact, suffering from the beginning of male pattern baldness yet, which is why I'm valuing the opinion of the derm over the Keeps doctor. I had no idea about the brother thing, either, and that's really interesting to me, the genetics of it all. You know, they say your father has a very small role in genetics as it relates to male pattern baldness, but I'm not so sure (and I've seen recent reports suggesting the paternal line might have more to do with male pattern baldness than previously thought) . And I guess it's possible that my mom didn't pass on that gene to me, though I know she has those genes because she passed them to my brother, so I guess I'm not sure if my brother has the genes that means she had to have passed it to me, too, and my father's genes helped override it or if she didn't pass it to me altogether. I'm very intrigued by that, though.

Your hair is thin and fine, you have early signs of hair loss. Your call on when to jump on them but if you don’t your gonna lose your hair eventually..

Thanks for the comment, @Deznuts. Yes, I definitely have fine hair, similar to my dad. I'll have the derm take a look at any miniaturization at the end of this month. Wanna stay proactive!

Thanks!

(Note: the first image I uploaded was taken about 4 years ago, and I tried to take a similar pic so you could see any differences, if any).
Dude...You have female hair!WTF???
Also your hands are very hairy.
I think that you've been on oral minoxidil and tranny meds for quite some time and you're trolling us.

Hair is receding or you have a 5 head (jk). If you have pics of you say at 21 to compare that is easier to determine.

@Calchas I'm definitely not on tranny meds, haha! It's odd...my dad is super hairy and so is my brother, pretty much everywhere, but I'm really hairy on my arms, lower body, and that's about it. No back hair and not that great chest hair, and my beard is NOTHING compared to theirs. Odd, I guess. (I've always kept my hair long; it's just easier for me to take care of for some reason, lol).

I guess deznuts doesn't have much experience regarding identifying receding hairlines. He saw a large forehead and concluded that it's a receding hairline. You don't have anything to worry about. Your hair hasn't changed at all since the past 9 years.

My advise- Get off this forum till the time you've your appointment with a derm. Give an update about the derms opinion. If it's hairloss, then stay. If not, then delete this account and never look back.

I didn't say you have long hair...It's just that your hair look thin and soft like a woman's hair.
Now that i see your 2009 pics, you don't have the slightest recession...
So,get the f*** out of here!..You don't belong in this purgatory for doomed baldies:)

Lol! From what I've read on the forums and such, you guys seem like a pretty cool group of guys and a tight-night community, so thanks for all of your advice. I'll report back with any disturbing tales of miniaturization.

Quick update for you guys: I went to the derm today, and she seemed kind of suprised I was there when she started looking at my hair. She looked at my hair and basically said my hairline follows the shape of my skull and she didn't see any sign of hair loss. It wasn't a very scientific test, to say the least. She didn't do any kind of miniaturization test or really any tests whatsoever, just moved my hair around and inspected. Regardless, she said I could keep an eye on it and gave me some things to look out for, but she said I didn't have hair loss. I feel a lot better, and I'll just store the finasteride from Keeps somewhere just in case. I still feel a little concerned that she didn't really do a miniaturization test, but I'll trust her word and keep an eye on it. Just wanted to update you guys!
