Hi everyone,

It has been a while since i have been on here because my hair loss has been somewhat manageable. At least it is not been bad enough for me to worry so much.

In September of 2006 I started using Fincar that I ordered from InHouse Pharmacies. I would cut it in 1/4's and take it once a day, and every so often I would forget to take it. but never more than 2 days.

I also use Nizoral when I shower. I alternate between Nizoral and Head and Shoulders.

My hair loss has seemingly stopped and since I began I even regrew a very small amount. However, I would love to see more growth. It is just that I am torn between stepping up my regimen and keeping on schedule. This is the reason I never started Rogaine because I do not shower everyday and I am horrible about starting and sticking to a new regimen.

It is time to reorder my Fincar and now I am wondering if I should start taking 1/2 instead of 1/4...

That is why I am seeking advice. I need help in what I should do next.

taking more than about 1mg per day won't make it work any better.

Yeah that is what I have heard for years, but I have also heard that everyone is different and may react differently.

Since I have upped the dose to half a Proscar, I am now experiencing the worst shed I have ever known. Seriously.

This makes me think that this was a good move and if I am shedding then there will be regrowth.

Or am I crazy?

its been clinically proven that 1mg is the best, so i dont really agree with your 1/2 theory. More shedding isnt always better.

Also i remember i read somewhere that Head and Shoulders is bad for people with male pattern baldness

Hmm weird. I did not see that study saying that 1mg is the best. Only that it seems to be just as effective as 1.25 or 1.5.

more finasteride is more effective, but subject to diminishing returns. a higher dose also means greater likelihood and severity of side effects. 1mg has the best cost/benefit ratio for most people.

What does that mean exactly? Do you mean to say that it will work for less years for me?

I never had many sides, but the sides I have experienced have lessened since I have upped the dose. I actually woke up with a hard on the other morning which I have not done in some time now.

He means that you will indeed get better results from upping your dose, but the difference won't be astronomical. The difference between 0.5mg and 1mg is substantial enough for it to be worth while taking the 1mg. However, the more of the drug you take, the less of a difference will be noticeable. Taking higher doses of propecia may reduce more dht, but it probably won't reduce an amount considerable enough to promote any extra growth. Hope this makes sence. 1mg has been found to be the optimal amount. By all means up it though if you wish, or take 0.5mg twice a day as a few users do. Experiment a little if you wish to find the best dose for you :)

Ok, I understand that. However I am a little concerned about the comment that shedding is not always a good thing.

I would like to read more comments about this.

It is much easier for me to deal with half a pill than 4 pieces. It also means the pieces are not exposed for as long, although this may not mean much.

My side effects seem to be less, although I never really experienced many anyways.
