Should I use finasteride on it's own or the big 3?

What are the chances of keeping or even growing back your hair with finasteride alone?
I've read a lot about the "big 3" being the most potent and successful way of doing it but I've also heard some success stories from people who use finasteride on it's own. It would be preferable to use finasteride on its own for obvious reasons (cost, less chance of sides ect). So what would people advise?

Depends if you really want to regrow or just maintain...

finasteride is better at maintaining

minoxidil + finasteride is a better combo if you wish to regrow alot of hair

Doing both will start massive shedding.. that is something people consider...

I would take finasteride alone for 8 months than reassess

+1

If your hair loss is very minor (aka you caught it early) - finasteride and Nizoral

If you lost a bit of hair or are really paranoid about losing more - Big 3

Yeah start with one thing and see how it goes verses tons of stuff at once and not knowing what works. finasteride is the obvious choice for that one thing.

Depends what you mean by minor. I guess I'm about a Norwood 2 to 2.5 at the temples and front middle but still thick hair at the crown. I am leaning towards finasteride & nizoral to start with though.

Does finasteride do nothing for regrowth then?

Nothing wrong with that, finasteride is the main component in the Big 3. finasteride could give you some regrowth also, it just depends on how you respond to it.

I've just thought of something else. I've heard that Min doesn't work for everyone. So if I started on the big 3 all at once and got some success it could be a combination of finasteride and Min or it could just be the finasteride that's working but I'd have no way of knowing either way. On the other hand I could start on finasteride and nizoral and then add Min a few months down the line if I felt I needed it. Then I'd know for sure what combination works best for me.

I can only speak for myself and my own results. I've been using a combination of finasteride and minoxidil now for almost 8 years, and using finasteride+minoxidil together is the best...1+1=3. Go all in with both and add Nizoral too.

I am about Norwood 3 (I know I should have started something earlier) and I have Minoxidil and Finasteride. Do you think I should start both at once or as someone suggested above use finasteride for a few months then add in Minoxidil?

Additionally I have been using Alpecin Shampoo thus far and I have heard stories that it is best not to use Alpecin Shampoo and Minoxidil together is this true? If so what shampoo would you guys recommend?

Thanks

I would just start it all asap...the sooner the better because there's significant lead time (12-18 months) to getting these solutions in your system adequately so that you can get your hair back or maintain it.

On the shampoo, that's the weakest of the Big 3...it's really the Big 2 (finasteride + minoxidil) plus a Small 1 (shampoo). I just got OTC Nizoral (1%) and Lipogaine Big 3 to try out...will report back in a while after I've had enough time to judge. Point being, don't stress about the shampoo...just get your *** on the Big 2.
