Should I write a song about losing hair?

I have been playing guitar for about 4 years... and pretty religiously the last 2 years, too.

I was thinking yesterday about writing a song about losing my hair...

I usually like to listen to rock and acoustic pleasures, but it's difficult to find a place where male-pattern baldness fits in... the blues?

Any suggestions? Or am I just stupid?

Not to hijack my own thread here,
but I don't believe that baldness will come in my lifetime...

Maybe I'm wrong, however.

But to get back on point,
do I have any other suggestions here as to the tone of music that should be involved?

Seeing as most of us are doing everything we can to hide our hairloss, seems a bit silly to do something that will draw attention to it. What if it becomes a hit? You'll be on MTV telling the whole world you're losing your hair.

I have to disagree with TheMoose on this one, it's not necessarily a stupid idea at all.

While it is good to focus on the positive, and a simple change in perspective, (illuminating the fact that in comparison to the majority of people in the world we male pattern baldness "sufferers" really have a sweet deal) can bring about great positive changes in our feelings, sometimes it's good to express bad feelings through music.

However, that being said, express is what is meant. I dont mean overly indulge them, wallow in them, etc.

And hey, if Aplunk has sung about his problem and then thinks "hey this isn't really bad enough to warrant a song" it will only make him feel better about it afterwards

Well, some guy´s in my town made a song about going bald, it´s a remake of "basket case" (green day) and it´s quite funny. The singer was starting to bald (by now is NW4+, last time I saw him), but the song was humurous. It was in spanish so I can´t transcript the lyrics qith rymes and it´s full funny effect, but the chorus was something like "I´m a hair donour/ I give it for free/ the floor gives me nothing in return".

Also a local filmmaker made a film titled "The Svenson Sindrome" (Svenson is some "clinical" company dedicated to extirpate money from balding guy´s pocket). It´s not fully dedicated to balding people, but more generally to the fact of going thirty and old.


If you decide to make your song, I think it would be a good idea to use poetry and metaphores. We all know how people reacts if you plainly say you´r balding, the old one "Oh! don´t worry, no one cares!" or "Are you stupid? haven´t you got nothing better to worry about?".

Maybe like this:

"Back in time when I was younger
I knew to be a king without a throne
now I´m reigning no longer
I don´t know how without my crown."

Or something about a tree whose leafs fell for ever, and now is afraid of spring, living eternally in the winter.

Then, Ken Washenick appears in the forest, goes next to the tree, takes a pocket knife and write in the sad tree "HM is soon entering to phase III trials, spring time is 5 years away". And the tree grew older, always naked, but happier because forever, there´r just five years to find his fallen leaves.
