been taking 1 mg finasteride for 4 months now.

i'm still shedding. does this mean its not working?.. most people who i've read up on claim their shedding stopped within the first 3 months. mine hasnt even so much as slowed down and i'm losing just as much as ever, plus it feels as if my hairline and temples are slowly disappearing.

anybody here for whom it took longer than 6 months for the shed to go?..

topics like these usually go unanswered.

I'm coming up to the one year mark taking proscar. It took 9 months before my hair stopped getting worse. In the last 2 months I've finally seen some improvements.

My advice is to stay the course and stick with the treatment for a minimum of a year. I would rate myself as an average to poor responder to finasteride because I haven't regrown a lot of hair. On the other hand, I would have lost a ton more without the treatment. I thought about quitting finasteride, getting a buzz cut and going to live like a hermit in the mountains hundreds of times - but I'm glad I didn't because my hair is finally looking better.

Keep up your regimen. Stay positive. Try not to worry about it.

Looking at your regeime it seems you made changes to your finasteride dose in august and then again in septembder, meaning that its only been 1 month on your new preferred source of finasteride.

well yes, i did adjust the dosage but i still have been taking finasteride for 4 months at least whether in the form of proscar or propecia.

just the responders to finasteride usually claim their shedding goes down within the first few months and mine is still going on.

MSM has helped though cause my hair has grown somewhat.

i guess i'll give finasteride another 2-3 months.

Shedding will continue until you don't have any hair remaining. Don't pay any attention to it; it isn't by itself a meaningful indicator of anything at all. Whatever treatment(s) you decide on, stick with them and don't even bother trying to assess your progress or lack thereof more frequently than once every couple of years or so.

Yes Dave, from all I've read, it appears every "couple of years or so" is probably right. Too bad it takes so long!

Guys: Here's a pretty good article on hair follicle cycling. (It's long.)

It can take upto 2 years to see the full effects of Propecia. This has been shown in independant studies.

That does not in any way contradict what he said.

Well, if you had done more reading you would know that one of the doctors involved in the finasteride. studies (FOR MERCK) told Dr. Rodney Sinclair that he wished people would give finasteride. two years before they judged the effectiveness.

Why are so many of you guys so predisposed to NOT READING about male pattern baldness?! :?

Jesus Christ - READ! (Oh, I know, who is Dr. Sinclair?!) I may need some Ritalin again.

You know, I expect my wife to be this dumb but not you grown men!! You guys are intelligent IMHO. So, spend some time reading. I mean SPEND SOME TIME READING.
