I smoked for the last few years. Not much maybe 7 a day on average. Could that have sped up my hairloss. If so will taking finasteride possible give me better results since I no longer smoke?

I've noticed smoking makes me shed more. So does eating a high fat diet. So does working out at first when I haven't for awhile.

There's a good chance smoking is accelerating ANY problems you have. That includes hairloss.

Well if you're not programmed to lose it I guess not. But if you are, I think it speeds it up. It does for me.

Not bad...7 a day average....who are you kidding? That's terrible. Your smoking habits are terrible, period...and regardless if it made your hairloss worse..it's making your lungs worse. Hair or lungs?

My father has been smoking since he was 12 (62 now). He receeded to a NW2-3 when he was 19-20, and thats it. He has the exact same hairline, texture, and thickness now that he had when he was younger.

Yea, it probably does but the chemicals floating in the air from the local chem plant probably have an effect too.

Can somebody please post a pic of Anthony Keidis from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Why?
Because everytime I read a post like :
Does smoking make you bald?
Does working out make you bald?
Does not exsercising make you bald?
Do trans fats make you bald?
Does masterbating make you bald?
Do lack of vitamins make you bald? etc...etc...etc..

I am reminded of the fact that Keidis was a hardcore heroin addict from the age of 15 - 35. Living on junk food when he was'nt too high to eat and partying 24/7. Yet look at his hair. I think that answers the above questions.

none of those things make you bald...they are not the cause...but I think many of them aggravate the condition...just like a high protein diet does not cause kidney disese...but if you have it then then you better avoid excess protein, beer and sodas or they will progress the disease...

Dammit? How can anyone be Heroin addict for 20 years?
Usually junkies (in hard drugs) don't make it over 10-15 yrs.

Anyway. Here's your pic man->

I guess some guys are excessively gifted when it comes to genetics, concerning hair.

re:

It is very doubtful that smoking "causes" hairloss, it MAY accelerate the process, though there is very little research. The reality is that smoking is awful both physically and mentally and at the very least does not help you deal with the inevitable stress caused by male pattern baldness.
I am so tired of people on this site citing one source as evidence that a theory is right or wrong. For example, just because Anthony Keidis smokes a pack a day and has all his hair does not mean that smoking absolutely has no effect on hairloss. Seriously people do you realize how foolish you sound? male pattern baldness is a complex physiological process that effects men in variety of ways and only through controlled studies can one conclude anything.
So I saw this totally bald guy who looked to be in his 20's and had blue eyes. Therefore it is very clear that every man with blue eyes will be bald in his 20's.......right?

That was the entire point to my post. All these people blaming their m.p.b on outside influences. The FACT is there is nothing more important than genetics when it comes to determining your hairloss any other factors are simply miniscule. Kiedis would not be bald whether he was a junkie or not.
