So when does it end?

Lets assume I do spend all this time and money trying to stop my thinning hair. Lets assume I do grow back what i've lost. Does this mean I am going to continue taking these meds for the rest of my life? Is there an end game? What is realistic? I still have 95% of my hair thick and have begun thinning at the top/front of my head the past year. If I am going to stop this, I need to act now, but is it worth it to go through all this or am i just prolonging the inevitable. Thanks for your feedback

If you are genetically destined to lose your hair, then that is where you will end up, eventually. Meds will help to slow the process, sometimes dramatically. I don't believe there can be a clear answer to this since Propecia has only existed for so long and its long term effectiveness can only be hypothesized. (please wait for the experts to post below)

I think of this in 2 ways: I can slow down the hair loss until I become comfortable with the inevitability of my situation (not at 23). Or, this will help bridge the gap between the current transplant technologies and the next generation (hair multiplication) if that day does come. In either case, it gives me hope for the near future and control (perhaps tenuous control) over the situation. If fighting it helps you, then fight.

Hmm..lets see...you got 95% of hair ..thats a lot.

So start with Finasteride. (5-7) years.
Switch to Revivogen + spironolactone (atleast 4 years..eg gourmetstylewellness.com)
* Assuming * Dutasteride (3-4) years.
Switch to 5% minoxidil ( 5 years)

Around = 20 years!

Save ATLEAST 2$ a day from today.

365 x 20 x 2 = 15000 $. (MINIMUM YOU WILL HAVE AFTER 20 Years).

That should be enough for Hair multiplication.....and perhaps new treatments should be out then.

20 years back there was no Propecia or minoxidil...

who knows what treatments are available after 20 years.

Chill!

Is this irrational optimism, or is this realistic? To me, 10 years would be good for maintenance... and that might be an overly optimistic time frame.

Why not? If treatments click for you..20 years is possible.

* OFCOURSE ASSUMING NO SIDES/HYPER REACTION * and * you respond to each treatment *

Rest of your life? By the time your 60 you wont give a sh*t about hair loss.

In reality, we are just using what is available, maintaining what we have and biding our time. The hope is that when newer and better medications are available in the future we'll still have a few stalks left over to work with.
