as a victim of hair loss for nearly half my life now, i've noted a few things over the years. not sure if its all in my head or there's really something more behind it :dunno:

i live in a hard water area in the UK and would always have shedloads of hair come out in the shower, especially with shampoo
once when in africa, i found that there was absolutely no hair loss in the shower for my entire trip! miracle cure (or so i thought!!!) although when i returned to the area a few years later i didnt have the same experience (different water supply or fluke?)

i have also noticed that a considerably high number of asian people in the UK are bald. many are NW7. i went to an indian function in london and there were LOADS of shiny heads. i stood at the back and counted about 60-70% of adult males were NW4+
but on a trip to india i was shocked at how many men still hadnt experienced ANY hair loss even upto their 50s, and those that had were at a much earlier stage. a very small proportion of them out there had anything close to NW7
the men in my family in india have more hair than those in the UK or africa - although the sample size is nowhere near big enough to make any sort of conclusion

and the final one, during a particularly frustrating period of hair loss when i'd be losing it at a tremendous rate, i found some temporary respite when i stayed at a hotel with big soft fluffy pillows. virtually no loss at night for days on end! and as soon as i checked out and came home it started to fall out like crazy again. i havent had a chance to follow it up cos shortly after i buzzed my head and that controls pillow loss anyway

i know its not exactly backed up with scientific data and stats but there were very noticable trends
does this sound familiar to anyone else? i figured if there's any truth in any of it than you guys would have clocked it by now!

I think people from first world countries have a terrible diet, high in fat and salt. I think this is a possible contributing factor to increased asian hairloss in London. I also think people from Western countries are bug and bacteria obsessed, im not sure what the link might be, but ive noticed that people living in poverty, in such places as India have HUGE heads of thick hair, yet they live in such filth and have dirty water. Then goto England where everyone is clean and uses the BEST shampoos and they are all balding!

As for the pillow thing, ive noticed that if i use a rougher surface cotton type pillow case, my pillow is covered in hairs the next morning, like 100+ hairs! However if I use a smooth surface, less friction pillow case, i get NO HAIRS. So needless to say I only use this type of pillow case.

Anyone else experience this?

Saf i know your stance on this. You're a straight down the line its ALL "genetics" and DHT guy. But I think you would have to be pretty ignorant not to take some other external factors into consideration, I think it warrants at least a discussion.

It is all genetics im not denying that. The point I was trying to make was people with the genetic predisposition of male pattern baldness. OTHER external factors can definately increase the rate of which you will go bald. Some of these things include stress and steroids. So you cant say they dont speed up the balding process because its been proven they do!

Yes but if you've got the genes stopping eating meat or smoking/wanking/drinking/excercising/shampooing ....... ect ect will not stop your hairloss or even let you keep it for a few more years. All you are doing is letting it control your life.
PS all the above are not anywhere near remotley as influencal to your hair as steroids.
