The men's section is a lot more active than females. I just wanted opinions on how obvious my hair thinning appears to be. I have noticeable recession around the whole of my hairline, generalised thinning and a widening parting.

1 year ago my hair was so thick and I would estimate its at least half as thick. I was told it is Telogen Effluvium by my GP but it is now over a year since it started with no signs of improvement.

It looks a normal head of hair but obviously you know your own hair, don't know your age but if you're getting older it could be more testosterone in your bloodstream, good news is i think female hair loss is easier to treat than male hairloss because the side effects of any treatment are all things women would want so look into treatments.

Tough to tell how much obvious it must be looking just from the pics bt I have seen quite a lot of girls with some thinning in the same area.Maybe if its looks too obvious try changing hair style

Thank you for replying. A couple of relatives can tell it is receding and I also have redness all over my scalp that blanches. Not sure if that means anything. I also have thinning hair on my body.
I was told I have low testosterone (albeit within range), which shocked me as I have increased facial hair and adult acne. I've just turned 30.

I wear my hair down every single day. I have seen some women on buses etc with thinning hair on those areas (usually older than me), I just don't understand why it would thin so quickly. My parents are both early 50's with no receding. It is getting worse and worse as each month surpasses too. I get an itchy scalp on occasion, but I also get itchy armpits too so not sure if it means anything.

Thanks for taking the time to reply

Talogen effluvium is the probably causing this. It is definitely thinned and looks uneven. BC men and women are so different it is hard to advice you about this. I doubt even experienced male members can help you. But keep hope. I think women get over hairloss quickly than men. Best luck Angel!

I can't afford to see a dermatologist or even to buy Rogaine (im not currently working), but even if I could I'm terrified of side effects. I have mental health issues and feel I am not being taken seriously by professionals as they think I'm imagining the thinning. I would love to see a dermatologist but am currently awaiting a rheumatology appointment and my GP understandably doesn't want to send me to a dermatologist as well.
It's causing so much stress and making me painfully self conscious.

Thank you for replying and yes uneven is how my daughter also describes it. From the front you can tell the left half is further back than the right side. The unevenness is actually how I came to tell something wasn't right.
Thank you about the colour, my hair is dyed so it isn't my natural colour as you can probably tell by my roots. I actually read thinning hair is less noticeable when lighter so started lightening my hair in April.
Assuming it was Telogen Effluvium and it's now been ongoing for a year, could this mean it has an underlying cause? I went through a very stressful breakup last year and am dealing with stress daily and can't help but wonder if it's related.

Thanks again

Yes. It definitely has an underlying cause and only expert can tell you which way you should Go. Talogen effluvium was the first thing comes into my mind when I saw your photo. I just see it again and I find that the problem is worse than it looks. It could be a serious skin condition . better get on treatment immediately under a good professional hair expert. Reduce stress level and eat heathy ,do exercise. Best luck!

Do you take birth control? This is known to alter your hormones and could cause hairloss....also any medicines or anti depressants can cause this....also it could be stress.

Thank you. Hopefully the rheumatologist can help me as that seems to be the only way I can see a professional. Although they're fully booked until after Christmas. Thanks again for responding.

No no medication at all. The last time i took medication was in 2014 and that was antidepressants. However I take nothing at all now. I'm hoping it is just stress but I can't help wonder if it's something more. I also have a puffy face that started around the same time and (sorry for the too much information) an almost compete loss of libido. However I suppose stress could cause that too.

Thought I should add that I'm using a topical retinoid (isotretinoin) for acne but my GP told me topical retinoids don't have hair thinning as a side effect.

I can't be sure, but I would say it could be related to either hormonal fluctuations, Telogen Effluvium or some other kind of temporary hair loss.
Thanks. I really do hope it's temporary. Just knowing the cause would take a lot of stress away. It's extremely frustrating not being able to afford to see a specialist as we can't choose who we get referred to in the UK.

Why?
please google "topical retinoids hair loss", and OTOH stress can cause difusse hair loss

Hmmm interesting. I am completely at a loss then. Of course there's no guarantee the gel caused their hair thinning but what a coincidence. If it did turn out to be the Isotretinoin gel then I'd need to choose between acne or thinning hair!
