Spending Too Much On Propecia

As I said, I believe my insurance does cover finasteride. The documentation does say it when I was looking over the papers, although it did not indicate dosage.

As for illegal, my doctor wrote me a script for a drug. If my insurance want to ask questions and go at it that rout, then by all means.

The prescription was just 5mg of finasteride for 1x daily. The Dr. is aware that I am quartering the dose for male pattern baldness. So technically it is insurance fraud. Though my insurance my actually cover 1mg finasteride, at least partially.

please note, insurance fraud is ILLEGAL.

thanks for the news flash.

I already spend a fortune on foam, if it wasnt for proscar i would be seriously broke. THe differences in long term cost between Proscar and Propecia is just phenominal. Dont know why anyone would go on propecia, its like 5 times the price for the exact same medication.

To the OP your doctor is a moron. Just goto another GP who has half a brain and will realise its the exact same medication, or just get it off the net.

My guess would be that some docs won't prescribe Proscar because they figure the patient will use a medical plan to get it, whereas a medical plan will not cover Propecia.

uh no....hell prsocribe proscar for hair loss...not for bph....your insurance wont cover it unless he he writes it for bph, which he wont cuz thats insurance fraud and he could lose his license or be fined.[/quote:1emc3k1g]

No thats not true. I work in insurance. Most won't cover for hair loss....some will. Depends on your plan.

Your insurance probably doesn't give a sh*t it's for hair loss until it starts costing them a certain amount.

Perhaps around the $500 mark. Most will automatically reject Proscar because they know it will with certainly go over their "cosmetic cap"

When propecia goes generic we may see more companies covering generic propecia, although unlikely since it will create confusion.
