Spironolactone 100mg. How can I keep taking it?

Hi, guys. I'm a 22-year-old NW2 (edging on 3). I tried a lot of different stuff to help with my hairloss. From topical snake oils that didn't get me anything to finasteride, which did little besides slowing down my hair loss. And not even by that much.

I eventually settled on Spironolactone 100mg. While it didn't restore my hairline completely, not even close, I experieced a noticeable improvement in my hair's look and density. Only now I got a problem, you see a side-effect of Spironolactone is numbness to the arms and legs. I'm not sure but I think it has something to do with it being a diuretic. I can take the reduced libido no problem, but this just won't do

I just wanted if anyone out there has any knowledge of pharmaceutics or is using Spironolactone, and knows if there's any other medication I can take to counter that affect. An antidieuretic perhaps?

Please, Aldactone has really saved my life. It may not be a cure to baldness, but it's the closest thing to it there is, and it actually works. I'm not that much of a looker as is, and even if personality mattered, I'm an Aspie, so I don't have that either. I simply CANNOT lose my hair if I am to maintain any hope of ever finding someone.

Thank you.

You are taking spironolactone orally?

You may want to talk to a doctor that specializes in hormones.

Another thing working out/getting into bodybuilding it will improve your confidence/looks a lot I recommend you try it

Yes, I take spironolactone orally. Or at least I took. I'm not really one to use topical snake oils.

Hey Falkner,

I'm on spironolactone too, so I'm glad to hear you've had some regrowth on it! I'm looking forward to that. How long did it take?
I haven't had any negative side effects yet, besides urinating more frequently in the night.

However, spironolactone is a powerful Testosterone blocker. Usually someone would take spironolactone with HRT, such as Estradiol, to replace the lost Testosterone.
If you are not transitioning, and have been taking spironolactone alone, you may want to see a professional. This may be the reason why you've had some side effects.

Otherwise, make sure you are always hydrated. I drink a lot more smartwater and gatorade now that I'm on spironolactone and even though I'm in the bathroom constantly - it reduces any negative side effects.

Good luck!

Hi Falkner.

Thank you for your post. I have used finasteride and dutasterdie with very decent success over the last 10 years. It literally saved me from a depression I was going trough because of hairloss so I know how you feeled.

I am glad you have found something that works for you. In my case I have the feeling dutasteride might loose some effectiveness, but maybe it is only a temporary shed. Anyway, I am considering oral spironolactone but first I will meet with a doctor before and also do a blood work to analyse my hormonal situation. If I decide to take oral spironolactone I want to be able to monitor effects.

I wanted to ask you

- Where did you buy it ? as I am 99% sure no doctor will prescribe me this and I don't trust so much buying pills on the web
- How long did it take to start working ?

If i can give you an advise stick a long time with finasteride. You won't see results in a month...
I reached probably top effectiveness after a year and a half for me.

best and good luck

I absolutely understand no wanting to lose your hair, but you should know that spirinolactione is a drug given to transsexuals orally becuase it blocks androgen receptors essentially making the testosterone in your body useless also decreasing the amount you produce.
You will get gyno if you stay on oral spire
The numbness youre feeling in your arms and less is probably you losing muscle and bone density as a result of you blocking your androgen receptors. The numbness you feel has nothing to do with it being a diuretic.

Your messing up yourself real bad by taking this stuff, essentially becoming transgender. Try dutasteride, RU, topical spironolactone, hair transpalns or anything instead. Lol what you're doing is literally the worst possible choice.

thank you for your feedback, I appreciate how you care about other people.
I am personally not on it. I also know also the danger of it.

But when you are close from suicide because of depression, crying everyday, even if that might sound exagerated, you are sometimes ready to do stuff that can be dangerous for your body.

If I ever use it, it wouldn't really be a "choice".

This is ridiculous, taking oral Spironolactone. I work with Doctors and that is a diuretic you are taking which has numerous side effects. Make sure your Urea and Electrolytes are regularly tested, can lead to Hyperkalaemia which is an emergency that can lead to cardiac arrest. You already say you got numbness, guess what, electrolyte disturbance causes it and that's the reason why you're getting it.

I do know what could possibly counter it but no way I would suggest it. Dangerous game.

I would stop taking it and have you tried Dutasteride for baldness?

There is no justification for doing what you're doing without any doctor input either.

But how does an MI sound? Death?

You can do a pros and cons list and see if you would rather be a transgender with hair or a bald man. I do understand the severe depression, but I think it would be worse to be a tranny than a bald man.

I'm also on spironolactone orally, but I'm female and spironolactone is often prescribed for women's hair loss. spironolactone makes me thirsty a lot so I go to the bathroom often. Aside from that little side effects

You have depression my friend. Its using your hair loss as a 'reason' that you feel this way. If your hair loss wasn't an issue, your would quickly find another.

You need to seriously see a professional regarding that.
