Spironolactone Cream? Anyone Used With Success?

my dht levels are already low from finasteride/dutasteride. Looking to add an anti androgen topical to lower testosterone. I see a 5% Spironolactone cream (maxigen s) available. Has anyone had success with this or other spironolactone creams? I don’t want to try RU as it sounds to risky

Was literally just about to start a identical thread like this aswell. Good call. Since reading about this old man that had been slick bald for 45 years who took spironolactone, maybe topical could do something. They say it wont go systemic, but I rather hear from someone who actually tried it themself...

I used spironolactone from MinoxidilMax in my temples. Twice, for nearly 3 months. But without success. And I also use minoxidil and dutasteride, so it was a big disappointment.

When I was using it for the first time, I experienced annoying acne and I suspect that it had to something with the systemic effects of this drug. I know that they did tests with spironolactone cream and no systemic effects were observed, but it was a short-term study so I take it with a grain of salt.
But you can be more successful. I have read successful stories in the internet.

I’ve been using 5% spironolactone cream for over 10 years. No side effects. Whoever has sides from topical spironolactone must be very sensitive.

There thing with topical spironolactone is:
It does slow down hair loss.
It won’t regrow new hair.
It won’t stop progression of hair loss but it will slow it down.

Tomorrow marks three weeks of applying 5% spironolactone cream morning and night, for me. I am also on Finasteride, and have been for 15-16 months. I tried progesterone for 3 months, and it did nothing for me. I’m only applying to my hairline as I don’t have loss in my crown. So far, I have no side effects but I also haven’t noticed any positive results either. It’s still early, obviously. I’ll try and come back in 3 weeks to keep you informed.

Where did you buy that spironolactone cream?
How do you know it didn’t do anything? It won’t regrow your hair. It should slow down your hair loss on a long run.
Give it more time.

@rcom440 I have only been using it for 3 weeks, so I really wouldn’t expect to see any difference yet. I was referring to the progesterone cream which I used for a little more than 3 months. I can confidently say that it didn’t do anything. I’ll continue using spironolactone cream for a minimum 3 months until I evaluate whether or not it’s making an impact. My expectations are reduced itch and/or reduced hair loss/shedding.

Update on 5% spironolactone cream. Been nearly 6 weeks of use. Apply morning and evening to entire hairline, focus on temples where hair loss is worse. So far no shed. I really believe my itch has been reduced! I had worst itching at left temple, and now I hardly get it anymore. It’s still there sometimes, but I feel like it’s an improvement from before. Otherwise, no change. Continuing daily 1mg Finasteride for approx 16 months, as well. I believe I’ve slowed my receding hairline with finasteride, and I’m thinking the topical spironolactone can help maintain where it’s at. I don’t imagine the 2% version would provide much benefits, and especially just once a day application.

On a different note, I did try minoxidil for 5 days with a terrible skin reaction. Looked like I had a chemical peel... had to apply coconut oil twice a day, and it took awhile to begin looking better. Was hoping the reaction was from something else, so tried it again for two days, and exact same thing. So, thinking minoxidil is out of the picture for me. Bummer, because I was hoping to use this to thicken my hairline.

It’s been 9 weeks, now. I’ve continued twice a day application, and have not missed once yet. At the 6 week mark, I began noticing small hairs in (and slightly below) my left temple. I was reluctant to say anything last post because I wanted to see what would happen before reporting. I am confident these are new hairs, since I have good pictures of this area from before. Unfortunately, over the past 3 weeks they have grown marginally, if at all. I’ll continue to monitor them with my magnification mirror, and report back in a couple of weeks. If these hairs do turn terminal and grow, it’ll give me that extra boost in my left temple I was looking for! Seems unlikely, but one can hope. Aside from that, itching has been reduced as stated in previous update, and still no shed.

I will post pictures if hairs continue to thicken, for those that want to see it. Would prefer to keep them private for now.
