I'm hoping to order some in the next week or so.

From what I've read, it probably isn't close be being as effective as Propecia (assuming you respond well to Propecia), but can help slow hairloss/maintain hair.

And until that RU stuff or Fluridil is properly studied, it's a decent price, safe and probably your next best bet after Propecia for a topical androgen.

I've been using it regularly for a couple of years and feel it's been a very helpful adjunct treatment to finasteride and minoxidil, but I don't believe it comes near the effectiveness of Propecia. I wouldn't drop finasteride and count on spironolactone to save my hair.

If you're not using finasteride give it a try but don't expect miracles and you must be consistent with your applications--preferrably twice a day.

Id agree twice a day is better - my head is literally caked in the stuff as i type.

Does the cream make your hair look really sh*t (Especially thinning)? Or does it absorb quickly and easy to rub in?

If the former...I may be better off with the liquid.

I leave spironolactone 5% cream in my hair for only about an hour each day and apply it an hour before I intend to take a shower. The stuff makes my hair look wicked greasy when it is sitting there.

I use Xandrox 15% Plus which has finasteride in it which I hope topically will remove some DHT. I also use Propecia which will hopefully rid 70% dht internally. I just hope that the spironolactone will take care of any remaining DHT. spironolactone should be converting any DHT that does make it to my scalp into estrogen and unable it to bind to my follicles.

So....

2% liquid or 5% cream. Which is better when you compare strength, smell, effect and ease to apply/how it makes your har look after applying?

Which is reccomended?

That makes me lean towards the liquid....

However, I've heard the liquid stinks, the cream doesn't?

Take a look at the following interesting excerpt from a lengthy article in a medical book. It was written by a doctor well-known for some of his contributions in this area:

http://www.geocities.com/bryan50001/spironolactone.txt

Those trials seem to show that the topical spironolactone was more effective when it was in a cream vehicle than when it was in a standard hydroalcoholic type of vehicle. I wish others would try to see if they can duplicate his results! :)

I'm sold. Just ordered some cream (Well, assuming my pre paid Mastercard is accepted and Dr Lee doesn't need a consultation of any kind which he shouldn't as I'm not in USA).

I'm report back my results - My plan is to use once a day before bed - Or twice if I drop finasteride (Although I'm worried how it will make my hair look before work).

A question if I may, has spironolactone happened to increase hair diameter or does it just maintain?

Are there any confirmed side effects from spironolactone?

When I first started using spironolactone I would use a ton twice a day and started getting chest pains and also I would sometimes lose feeling in my fingertips?!?! Weird but I looked it up on google and their were others with similar experiences. It did however go away when I switched to using a less amount once a day.

I tried this stuff previously and it stank so badly that i had to stop it after several months. The smell was terrible!! Have they changed it since?? Its NOTHING to do with mixing it with minoxidil, as i left the two 3 hours apart, plus the spironolactone just smelt like it does in the pot - not good.

Kiel, I've jumped on the Xandrox 15% bandwagon because your hair rocks my world.

Which spironolactone cream are you using? The minoxidil.com 5% lotion one?

Ok so I've got my 5% spironolactone Dr Lee Cream.

-There's a slight odour if you stick your nose in the tub, but with the (small amount) applied to your hair it's undetectable. Even if it was detectable, it's not strong enough to bother you.

-You can apply it to gelled hair and like thin hair, looks sh*t when damp and stuck together. - However, but using comb to seperate the strands of hair, it looks completely fine.

-Therefore I conclude that it doesn't really smell at all, and can be applied before work.
