Unfortunately, I have never had the pleasure of savouring the aroma of rotting ***, so I could not tell you. But, it does have a distinct smell. I hate to dissuage folks from using it, because it might be very effective for some. The smell is not necessarily foul, but it is distinct, kind of like going to bed wearing a strong cologne into the sack night after night. It just gets tiring.
