Splitting 1mg finasteride pills

I'm sure this has been covered, so please send me in the right direction if you know it.

So I've had a box of finasteride for a few months now. I haven't taken 1 pill yet due to fear of sides but now I think the time has come. I've been making good progress from using half a capful of Regaine foam every morning, but the good times are somewhat equal to the bad as there is a shed every couple of months and I see my progress (hair) going down the drain. So it's a bit 1 step forward 2 steps back if you know what I mean.

I've been doing a bit of reading and it seems that a lot of people are taking 0.5mg of finasteride daily. I think this is the way to go for me because of financial reasons and if there are sides, they won't be as bad/harmful. What do you guys think?

I'm going to invest in a pill cutter so I can split the pills cleanly and evenly. My question is: how do I store the other half? And if I want to split a few pills at once (instead of 1 every 2 days), what is the best way to store them? I'm not sure about chemistry or the active ingredients and how sensitive they are to air etc.

I dont think it has much to say how you store the other half as long as you dont expose it to very warm temp. My finasteride pills comes in 5mg (very cheap) and I take 0.3 every day. This means I have to crush the pill and split the powder into around 16 doses. I put every dose in rolling papers and store all of them in an old pill box. Btw, just go for the pill. Most likely you will not experience sides as long as you dont think about them. Thought a lot about them in the first days, but now I dont and everything is all good

Just an idea, but wouldn't it be easier to pour the powder in a bottle of water or similar and you drink 1/16 of the bottle each day? It sounds tricky to divide the powder into 16 rolling papers.
