Started finasteride Feb 2, shedding continues should I stop?

Due to "inciting events" I was diagnosed with Telogen Effluvium in Dec 2004. Since then I've decided that the most likely scenario for me is that I have experienced some level of Telogen Effluvium combined with male pattern baldness. It seems that my male pattern baldness has likely been accelerated by my shedding. Dr. Lee told me to stop the finasteride which I started Feb 2, 2005, because it is possibilly causing shedding. My temple recession has gotten bad enough that I am very seriously considering taking his advice and stopping the finasteride.

Has anybody seen their shedding slow or stop due to stopping the use of finasteride? Any advice is appreciated.

you're saying you've been shedding since february...?...thats 7 months my friend...shedding on treatment should not last more than 1-2 months max..if it does then its something else..i would get a second opinion.

if indeed your shed is because of finasteride which i doubt...then it should stop after quitting it.

get some tests done and get a second opinion...

what dosage of finasteride are you on..any other medications you've been taking?..what Norwood are you?.

My shedding started Dec 2004, likely due to Telogen Effluvium. Since then it has decreased. When I first noticed the shedding I was getting piles of hair just by running my hands through it, but as of a couple of weeks ago it was minimal. About 10 days ago it picked up again, still probably not like it was last year.

I take Propecia (except that I quite as of this morning). I do take Tegretol for a minor seizure disorder, but just asked my Neurologist about it and hairloss the other day and he thought it was highly unlikely that it was causing hairloss. I am about a Norwood 2.5.
