Started losing hair

Hi all

I started losing hair like 2 months ago and am still losing hair from the front and top of my head. The past two months have also been a very stressful period. Nobody on my mothers side loses hair and my father started to lose hair in his mid 40s.

I am 26 years old and I was wondering if this is genetic or could it be because of stress. Is it possible for me to start losing hair so early even though the only other person I know in my family to lose hair started it quite late? If this is because of stress, is it reversible and is there anyway for me to know why this is happening?

Some of the hairs that fall are also very very thin and very short.

Thanks for the help. :)

how heavy are you losing it. Theres a good chance it could be telogen effluvium from the limited info you've provided...

I'm losing quite a lot. Everytime I run my hand through my hair theres atleast one hair. When I shampoo my hair theres usually ten or so. Whats Telogen Effluvium ?

Losing ten hairs or so while shampooing is quite normal, considering that every human being loses 100-150 hairs a day on average. I lose a lot more than ten while shampooing.
Telogen Effluvium is a stress or trauma induced condition, making you lose a lot of hair in a short time. If you have Telogen Effluvium, don;t worry  , it should grow back as thick as it was once the cause of Telogen Effluvium has been taken away. If your hair grows back thinner, you are likely to have male pattern baldness.

if youre losing one hair when touching your scalp, and 10 in the shower, you are not suffering from telogen effluvium.
youd be losing more like 20 hairs when touching your head and a hundred in the shower.

Thanks for the reply guys. If it was Telogen Effluvium, then I think this has helped a lot reduce the stress. :)

I was wondering if temperature could also have an effect. I live on the equater (literally), and its hot as hell these days. Hotter than I have experienced before and I have long curly hair.

Thanks again :)

I'd be more stressed having Telogen Effluvium than male pattern baldness. I know what treatments can do for my male pattern baldness, I'm not worried about losing my hair. (Well, not much, anyhow.)

Where are you losing your hair? If you are losing it at the hairline and/or the crown only then it is most likely male pattern baldness. Telogen Effluvium appears all over your head.

Yeah, but its often much more noticeable on top of the head.

It really depends on the level of stress the guy endured.

hairlossguy,

So it sounds like you probably don't have Telogen Effluvium but rather male pattern baldness. Do some research here because you'll likely end up getting on the BIG 3 sooner or later.

The Big 3 consists of:

- Finasteride (Propecia or Generics made by Cipla or Dr. Reddy's)
- Minoxidil (Rogaine or Spectral DNC)
- Ketoconazole shampoo (Nizoral or Revita)

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I think its male pattern baldness rather than from stress. Man, this sucks big time. I knew this would come sooner or later. But since the only person in my family to have this got it quite late, I thought I had still more than a decade or so and was thinking those genetic research scientists would come up with something by then. But really why would they invest in something like this when theres more important stuff like cancer out there. Anyway, thanks for the help. I'll look into the big 3. :)
