Hi there! My name is Mariano, And I have been experiencing hair loss since I was 18/19. Now I'm 27. I never worried about my hair loss because I had so much hair, but 1 year ago I went to a derm and she told me I have male pattern baldness, so on Febraury 2017 I started with propecia (1mg/day), ketoconazole shampoo on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and I use a caffeine shampoo on my days off ketoconazole. My dad is 72 and he is a norwood 6-7. He started thinning in his twenties, in a very slow rate I think. He started loosing hair in the crown first (I'm not experiencing problems in my crown yet) and then in his temples. My grandpa was also a norwood 6-7 by the age of 80. On the other side, My mothers dad and my uncles (from moms side) have their head full of hair.

EDIT: I forgot to say this: My dad has 2 brothers. one of them is a norwood 6 (70 years old) and the other has no temple recession but is bald in his crown (weird right? maybe he is on finasteride and I don't know)

What do think? norwood what? I don't know if those rebel hairs in my hairline are new hairs due to my regimen or what.
I dont have before pictures because, as I said, I never gave a sh*t about this situation :/

pics:
thanks!

nw1-2. you look fine to me. it's good you're starting early. i wish i did.

That's what I thought. I think more a NW2. I'm sure I don't have the hairline I had at 18/19.

That's not a good way to say hello. This is my first time posting here. I have male pattern baldness (diagnosed by a professional) and I'm in treatment. As I wrote, My dad and grandpa are NW6-7, and without a treatment I will also be.

Caught your hair loss at a very early stage; your hair line looks line mine did when I started finasteride. finasteride thickened up my hair line a bit and I hope you have the same results.

NW1 for sure. Not NW2 at all. Your density is nuts btw.

My density has improved a lot since I'm using a caffeine shampoo + washing my hair with cold water (I first dip my hair with room temperature to open pores, then use the shampoo and after that dip my hair with cold water)

Look at that gorgeous density, op how do you know you have male pattern baldness?

Because my dermatologist told me so (two dermatologists btw) Both agreed it is male pattern baldness. She said I was thinning not only on my temples but on all my hairline. and that the best thing I could do was start finasteride + ketoconazole for stopping hairloss, and that it was not necessary to start with minoxidil if I was "happy" with my current hairline.

Ya I definitely wouldn't start minoxidil, youdndo fine on finasteride even if you just maintain.

I'm not experiencing any sides from finasteride (7 months of use). Maybe I don't last in bed the same time I used to, but I think that is because I kinda quitted masturbation (I used to masturbate once a day and now I masturbate twice a month)
I also have some dandruff because of the caffeine shampoo, but I think is nothing to worry about.

caffeine shampoo and cold water are the proven treatments for male pattern baldness, so it's a good sign that you're responding. otherwise, at this rate you'll be nw6 by next year.

Not funny. I didn't say caffeine shampoo and cold water is the cure for male pattern baldness. I mean I have my hair THICKER since I wash it with cold water and use caffeine shampoo.
BTW, you should read this german study:

that's pretty interesting stuff. so it had a proven success in not just maintenance, but also regrowth and increase in quality / thickness of hair?

i might have to look into it as an alternative to my volumizing shampoo. i struggle to find anything that makes the diffused rat's nest on top of my head presentable.
