Hi All,

I started Propecia 3 days ago and I'm hoping it will work for me. Do you think I've got a chance of having halfway decent hair again?

Only one year ago I had longer hair and you couldn't even tell I was loosing it. But this last year has been hell on my hair. After I took these photos I buzzed it down to a stubble -- I think it looks better.

Thanks.

Link didn't work for me. But anyway, if your hair is still getting worse in 6-8 months, I'd suggest starting minoxidil at least once a day. Lotsa fellas only need propecia, but some needs the minoxidil too. I be one of 'em.

Also might be a good idea to take some shots of your buzzed head to compare later.

Speaking from personal experience, you might want to retake your photos using a "flash" rather than not. Although you hairloss will appear
more evident with a flash, if your planning on using photos to measure your recovery, the flash will more easily "pick-up" the new regrowth on the digital or film camera. In other words, if you don't use a flash, you're not likely to notice any small advances in regrowth. Just a suggestion. Shiney.

add minoxidil to your regimen and you should be o.k. Give it a year, and see what happens.

Welcome to the forums!

I'm betting your long hair hid thinning and things were worse then you thought. Hairloss can creep up on you. Still you know best.

finasteride may help, but chances are its not going to grow that much back. You could use Minoxidil for gains, but then you have to worry about sheds, alcohol irritation, and commitment. I would hold back on the minoxidil to for at year or so if you can help it. Starting earlier on minoxidil wont make it work better (the finasteride should at least keep it where it is anyways).

We have very similar balding patterns. First off, keep the sides of your hair very short. Dont let areas with high density grow long so there wont be any hair to contrast with whats on top. You may find you can grow the top out and even style it and that it looks ok (it wont look like it once did, but hey). Like a number of us bright overhead lights may become a concern but still you'll have hair. Since theres no recession, the hope is people will just think its naturally thin.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll stick with Propecia for at least a year and see where I'm at.

I've tried growing my hair out twice now, but like flux said, it looks pretty bad contrasted with the thicker hair on the sides. I'll have to try keeping the sides short and see how it looks.

Looking closely at my hair, the actual density on top isn't too bad... they're just thinner/lighter hairs, so it looks much thinner than the sides. From what I've read, Propecia most likely won't sprout new hairs, but it might thicken up existing ones. If that's the case, then perhaps I'll do alright. I wish wish wish!

I'll keep you posted in the coming months.
