Hope he's right. I can say that after one hour there is no side effects :p.

What I personally believe is the best thing to do and will try to do is to just pop it and move on with your activities.

Let me know if you start taking it and good luck.

Okay so two days in nothing to report. What I wonder is can finasteride reduce the oiliness of the scalp?

I mean before all this, I used to wash my hair every 3-4 dats and it still wasnt as greasy as nowadays it is a day after washing it.

Hi :)
The first thing to remember is that any progress will take time, dont expect any visible signs during the first 3-4 months.

The second thing to remember is that you must remember to take your medication every day, dont lose hope and dont start to increase the dosage as it wont give you any better results.

You will read some stories here about people getting incredible gains in 1-2 months, these stories is highly suspicious considering how hair growth works and the 3 phases it goes through, so dont start to think that you dont respond well and dont compare your regrowth to them.

I had some great regrowth considering my age and my late start in using medication, it took me 6-7 months to get a visable difference, and it keeps on getting better and better.

Okay so 1 week in, I'm experiencing weaker erections and slightly watery semen. But nothing harsh, also I do manage to maintain erection it's just a little bit weaker.

As for hair, no changes. Not that I've expected any so soon.

You made the right choice bro. There's a possibility you'll shed within the first 6 months. Don't let this scare you off of the medication. Just ride it out!

Remember to take a picture of your head now before anything happened, than take a picture every month (more or less). If you take pictures every day you wont be able to see the difference.

Load them up to this post, or keep them private, it will give you a chance to see progress after a few months and work as a motivation to keep up the routine ;)

Yes I just got mine a few days ago, and am debating whether I even want to try it or whether id rather go bald. Yes it saves me from worrying about my hair, but then I am worrying about my health instead!
The best thing about finasteride honestly is that in MOST cases if you get any serious sides you can always stop. Its a cosmetic thing you can stop anytime you want.
The best thing in favor of finasteride IMO is that many men are going into year 20+ on it. It cant possibly be bad long term because we already have data on people using it long term. Starting today id be amazed if your on it still in 10 years.

@abcdefg

I will not tell you either to go for it ir not, you have to decide it by yourself considering your situation. What I can tell you is that after 10 days, what I do notice is less semen production and no morning wood. Also erection is weaker but I'd say about 10%. Which for me personally is acceptable and I'm also hoping for the side effects to subside in a while.

@Manochoice

I will update thiis tread regulraly. Hope with positive news. What I also have to say is that I loose hair all over my scalp and eyebrows as well. And this lasted for three years before I got on finasteride. What I hope to ses first is a little less oily scalp, less itch and better hair quality in general.

There is really no reason to be afraid of finasteride. I stopped getting morning wood also and I have been taking it for four years. A lot of the time erections might happen during the night on and off, but guys don't have one all the time when they immediately wake up. I am seriously contemplating Avodart, but that is a drug worth being scared to take because it inhibits far more DHT and even inhibits I believe 15% of DHT in the brain. Mdmnota if the side effects get bad you could just reduce your dose by .25mg or a little more. I wish I could go back to the time I started finasteride because the results for me after 6 months were awesome. At month three hair loss stopped then I had regrowth and after that my hair quality became perfect and now my hair sucks because DHT is starting to overpower the finasteride as my male hair loss becomes more aggressive with age. I know the Admin on this site uses topical spironolactone, so I might give that a shot next.

This post is cool since I never thought it would happen, especially after 13 years :D Not having a dig because I know your hair loss wasn't aggressive (mature hairline max) but genuinely wish you well with the medication if you take it. You're right, we have tons of data on it and you can always stop too anytime if you want. You were always being a bit too cautious in my opinion but luckily your hair didn't take the matter out of your hands! A lot of my old posts are luckily quoted by others mostly about hair so likes of @Spanishlad @VeprSuper @Notcoolanymore will also be useful to you and OP regarding being on Finasteride long term. Some of these guys really helped demolish the anti finasteride brigade back in the day along with the mods.

Good luck to OP as well. If he's starting as a thick Norwood 3 he has nothing to worry about (provided he gets through the initial possible side effect phase) and he can have a good hairline transplant to bring him back to nice hair.

Take pictures every 3-6 months, the maximum impact tends to be seen at year 2-3 or in some cases earlier. After that it's maintenance. Microscopic examinations for telogen/anagen distribution and hair weights can be useful but this is OTT.

Hey Wolf Pack and abcdefg what do you guys think about Avodart? Do you think if I try it and the sides are bad It could just be dropped and a person would go back to normal? It seems like studies show finasteride sides to be just as common as Avodarts. When I Wiki Avodart about 3 - 15% might experience sexual problems and 3% could see gyno, but unlike finasteride, a very small portion of men around 1% didn't see the sides leave after stopping Avodart. Whenever I ask a Derm they tell me there isn't enough research, but then how is it approved in Japan and Korea for hair loss? Is Avodart something that will be approved you think in the US for hair loss in the next 5 years?

Who knows if it will be approved in the US, may be not, but not due to safety concerns rather GSK who make Avodart may not think it's a worthy financial move to go for this. Sides on dutasteride have been show to be lower/same/higher than finasteride. Ultimately I'd say it's probably a few % more risk. Most people who are okay on finasteride are okay on dutasteride so that's an approach worth considering. Always look at studies not random people on here who may have mental issues or an axe to grind. That's why I always admired Agustin (as he knows over PM), since he came on here in a time where people were doing a lot of scare mongering without given equal weight to studies and science. He simply saw his doctor, read the drug leaflet and did his own research, then took dutasteride and has had no sides all this time. The only worry with dutasteride is the fact that in studies there is a slight irreversible sperm decrease unlike finasteride, it shouldn't be an issue for healthy men to conceive but still that's there to possibly occur. We have a natural model in the population more or less for finasteride but not dutasteride. finasteride should be enough for 90% of men. Of course you can drop dutasteride and go back to normal but if you develop something coincidentally that's a different story.

Hey man this is pretty much what happened with me as well. I was seriously considering Avodart after finasteride started losing it's potency. Instead I saw the amazing results on dermarolling/microneedling. I started that along with adding Morr F ( topical finasteride/ minoxidil) solution daily at night. I've seen much better density in my hair to the point where I don't need to jump on a more aggressive anti Androgen.

Try L-citrulline. It's a workout supplement. It helps to increase nitric oxide in the body which will increase blood flow and help with weaker erections. It works really well for me.

@ButWhyTho

I will try it in case I don't get better erections in a month or two.

Just to update, almost two weeks in. Literally nothing to report.
