Was going to make a thread in the stories section, but I'm having trouble with my pic uploads, and at the moment I don't have time to figure it out, so that may be forthcoming in the next couple days.

Anyway, today I saw my new derm (the son of my previous derm who wouldn't prescribe me finasteride), and he wrote me a script for 1mg. He seems to know whats up with the whole hairloss thing. Said finasteride and minoxidil are pretty much what there is now...he brought up some of the other treatments I might here about, specifically lasercombs, and how they're a waste of money. Mentioned biotin and how it might help strengthen the strands but would do nothing to actually stop hairloss. He also said he was in a meeting recently and there was talk of some exciting procedures in the works in regards to hairloss that are promising, but he didn't elaborate a whole lot.

I'm pretty happy with him as my hair Doctor right now, but something funny he did say was how the finasteride and minoxidil should help me hang on until something better comes out in 5-10 years, and I couldn't help but think of these boards and the cynicism over the whole 5-10 years thing lol.

Anyway, I'm going to pop my first finasteride tomorrow morning when I take the rest of my vitamins and supplements. I'm planning to cut the pill and start with .25mg for about a week, and then bump up to .5mg. Not sure if I'll stick with the .5 for some months or just bump up to the full 1mg, but I like the idea of gradually introducing the hormonal change to my body.

Kj, I see you're currently on the Minoxidil and Nizoral regimen. Did that combination not work well for you and that's why you're adding the Finasteride? I ask because I was a Finasteride user for close to 15 years and have recently come off it and switched to the regimen you're currently on...

Well I've only been on the minoxidil and nizoral for 2 months, so it's too soon to say if they're really doing anything for me or not. My shedding does seem to have reduced, but I can't say for sure. Adding finasteride has been my intention since I started, I've just been dealing with a few road blocks involving insurance and doctor issues, which is why I've only been using otc treatments until now.

I know there are other people on here who have used just minoxidil and keto far longer than I have, maybe they can chime in?

Good luck sir. If I may make a suggestion on the psychological side: do not read the side effects of this pill.
They are quite scary, but by reading them there is a possibility that you can get a couple of them due to your mind playing tricks on you.

The drug does indeed work, I can tell and so can the pictures of my hairline that I currently have in my possession.
Also: Did you know that you could get a stroke from a simple anti-allergy pill? Trust me, the side effects of this pill are not as bad as a simple anti-allergy pill so do yourself a favor and don't focus on them too much. I'm sure that you will read them, but don't obsess your mind with them.
