so i have to stop minoxidil after a year of using 2x daily. it was absolutely killing my scalp. tried all the products, nizoral, tgel, folligen and none worked well enough..

to be honest, im kinda nervous, but i'm taking it like a man....

to any who have stopped cold turkey, how long till the big shed? i doubt mine would be that bad, since i lost many many hair from the irritation.

its actually something ive been debating...

Which is worse: Not using Minoxidil, but having a clean, healthy scalp, or using Minoxidil, but with a irritated, damaged scalp...

2 months

It will take as little as 2 months for most hair to thinned off... It might also take up to 6 months...

if you decide to stop, it's better for your hair to thinned out sooner rather than later....

at least you will have 6 months for most hair, not all to return back....

For what it's worth, Dr. Marty Sawaya says that Minoxidil probably only needs to be applied once daily. Don't quote me on that and don't rely on it for results, but I do trust her judgment on things. She was around the bigwigs during the minoxidil trials, and feels a big part of the 2x per day thing is to sell more product ...

There is also a highly practiced theory that applying it and allowing it to soak in for 10-20 minutes then washing your scalp, has the same effect as applying it and letting it sit all day, minus the irritation factor.

Additionally, Nizoral has been hypothesized to have a similar effect to 2% minoxidil, so ... hm.

minoxidil daily

gourmetstylewellness.com:

From what I recall reading, can't remember if it was the package, or in studies, don't they say something like "extra applications will not be more effective, the precise amount has been determined to facilitate growth" or something like that...

that makes it sound like, on the flipside, they have studied and found that 2x is better than 1, although they never say that they did a study where they had one group apply it once, one twice, etc.

I don't know, you probably remember the studies better. Seems like one application would do something.

I've been doing two, to three (about 6 am, 1 pm, and later around 7 pm) on some days. Tons of regrowth.

Hey Celtictigyr,
Are you using the 2% or 5%?
Thanks

Well now gourmetstylewellness.com, seems as though my "anti-minoxidil" users may not be as much of a minority as some have suggested. I do believe that there are more cases of bad minoxidil experiences and, yes, sheds than some would have others believe.<I know how you love to debate that. Time and research will tell, eh?

I am not suggesting we are the majority, simply that bad experiences from minoxidil are more common than many believe.<In my humble, non-scientific oppinion. But you must admit, the anecdotal evidence is growing.

Even Dr. Lee, who I highly respect, has a section on his web site that states somthing to the effect of..........."physicians are leaning toward moving away from products that cause large and excessive amounts of shedding".

Don't stop using it.
