Background: 22, male, lots of fine hair with a little tiny bit of temple recession on the right side of my hairline and some noticeable thinning immediately behind the right hairline.
My hair's always looked super strange, so I've kept it short my whole life. Tried growing out the top a bit but the recession above the hairline made it look silly (can post pics if it would help), so I skin faded up to a #5 guard as per usual. However, when cutting the back of my head today, my barber discovered an almost perfectly round patch of thinned-out hair about halfway between nape and crown. It wasn't there as recently as three weeks ago.
Could this be some sort of bizzaro diffusion? Or am I dealing with the opening stages of alopecia areata? I've already checked with several people, it isn't as simple as the barber using the wrong guard.
