Stress Related Hair Loss...typically Where?

I think my hair loss was going to happen regardless as my grandfather lost his hair as well so it was only a matter of time. I expected it to be more of a gradual loss but instead I have lost a lot in about a year in a half.

Now I'm no doubt under a lot of stress - I had spine surgery last year and started grad school after a month of recovery. Working full time and going to grad school have been tough and I'm not that happy at work either.

Anyway, I wanted to know where typically the hair loss is for stress related hair loss. I really wish that this wasn't happening now because it's hard to not be stressed out when I have to deal with this as well.

Ill tell you what others told me when I came here thinking my baldness was just stress related (my stress was bad enough that my eyes were twitching and I had to quit my job for a few months)

Stress might cause hair loss to accelerate.

but if it is not accelerating anything, it is just pure stress with no genetic involvement, then it will simply be patchy hair loss all over, not any recession or any pattern. So if you have that, then maybe its just stress.

but if its a recession of any pattern (such as, just being at your hairline, crown, temples...) then I would say, that is not from pure stress, it is from genetics. And if stress has anything to do with it, it is just making it happen sooner

Stress related hair loss is uncommon. It's most likely Male Pattern Baldness. Maybe distress can worsen balding but no correlation has ever been proven, at least to my knowledge.

Wouldn't stress induced hair loss cause you to lose hair all over the scalp instead of just the top/male pattern baldness area?

I had the same stress related symptoms, chronic fatigue, weight loss, lethargy. Blood test came back but I was not in a good state.

I had non agreessive male pattern baldness, but that period in 6 months caused me patchy loss diffuse loss, with circles and long strips. Kind of like AA but but not bald. I've been using minoxidil plus a some other stuff and my temples which where already receded have come back but the hair around my crown and back of head is still patchy, it's not so bad when my hair is longer but it's very visible after the barbers.
