stress will make your hair fall out quicker in some cases.

I'm not sure if it speeds up miniturization (which is more important to us)

Stress can in theory cause Telogen Effluvium, but not male pattern baldness.

I'm quite certain that stress can aggravate male pattern baldness-like symptoms. Stress can act as a hormonal trigger. Think adrenaline, which can be extremely rife with some stress.

No. Stress has no effect on male pattern baldness whatsoever.

Person A carries the gene for male pattern baldness. Person B does not.

Person A is going to start losing his hair (on top) at some point after puberty and he has no control over it (w/ out treatments) and won't see it grow back (w/ out treatments).

Person B can eat junk all day, not exercise, work a stressful job, masterbate frequently, run his greasy fingers over his scalp - and won't suffer any permenant hair loss.

Bottom Line - you are balding because one or both of your parents is carrying the gene for heriditary hair loss.

Stress levels can directly effect hair loss by causing a horomonal imbalance that jambri spoke of. During periods of continued stress your bodies cortisol levels stay at a high level creating an imbalance in hormones and can cause continued insulin spikes. This continued release of higher than normal levels of cortisol can also lead to sleep problems as melatonin is not properly released.

If you want to you can relate the insulin spikes to Dr Mercola's studies that he has done on insulin resistance and hair loss.

A book called "The Cortisol Connection" is great at explaining how all of these different hormones within the body interact.

People, our bodies do not work like computers. This is not a check the cables to see if that works then reboot. It is not 5AR and that's it. If it was propecia would have cured me.

That's not the worst of it:

Stressing about your hair causes cancer, and masturbating makes you grow hair on your palms.

These are true statements.

Stress can cause hair loss. We all know that, BUT it does not specificially target hairs on top - it affects hairs all over the scalp. Everyones concern here is losing hair on top, except for the very small % who experience progressive hair loss on entire scalp.

so how can you tell the difference between stress related hairloss (Telogen Effluvium?) and male pattern baldness?

Well if your hair loss is all over - it can be stress related. If its only on top - its male pattern baldness. Stress isn't going to cause someone to develop a horseshoe look, only heriditary hair loss does that.

maybe mine is stress related then. cause im losing hair all over (top, sides, back) and at one point my eyebrows were falling out too. i have been under a huge amount of stress the past 2 years and have been dealing with depression.

i dont suppose there is a test or anything you can do to confirm if its stress related?

I'm not sure about tests, but there are things you can do to reduce stress - such as cardio exercise.
