Sudden Onset Of Severe Itching From My Favorite Tape

After trying a variety of tapes, I've settled of Vapon's Lace FX.

I can readily buy it from a store nearby & it provides phenomal hold for me.

That said, I'm itching like hell on my taped perimeter. I mean, really badly.

When I remove my piece, my skin is red where the contact is, and possibly inflamed.

The tape's packaging alleges it's hypoallergenic & "medical grade."

I didn't have this issue before, so I don't think it's a case of contact dermatitis.

Could this been a matter of putting tape - any tape - over previously-irritated skin? (I think I've been a bit overzealous in my scalp prep recently).

I really don't want to be allergic to this tape!

I'm going to have to detach a fresh application over Walker's Thick Scalp Protector, which did nothing to combat the itchiness, & apply some cortisone cream to the area, take a break.

I really hope it's not the tape...

But is it? I think I should sleep with a piece stuck to non-irritated skin in order to find out.

Anyone inexperience itching for a reason apart from allergy?

Are you shaving your hairpiece area with a wet razor? That can create little invisible nicks in your skin which can become irritated by the adhesive. Buzzing with a beard cutter is better.

Ya, unfortunately the damn beard trimmer doesn't work too effectively (takes long, doesn't get close) - I've applied an Rx-grade cortisone cream/antifungal combination to the affected area. That's to cover all bases, as I've been definitely sweat a good deal while wearing hair recently.

What's another good tape I can get in CC contour? I like SuperTape but whoever's distributing the product on Amazon Prime sends bad batches, with pieces stuck together...

Walker No Shine is an obvious pick, but I've found it to be backwardly designed. "This Side to Scalp" is very difficult to tape to a unit's base.

What else is good and can be appropriated on Prime?

I think you will find that is what is causing the irritation. Worth buying one of those rotary electric razors perhaps. I hope it clears up soon for you.

I use No-Shine myself, so I will let others chip in on other good tapes.

No-Shine is excellent but it seems designed to be applied to the scalp rather than the base of a wig.

Am I wrong ? Pulling the backing off tape isn't exactly rocket science but I found this tape's peeling side to be on the wrong side

Has anyone ever looked into if tapes cause any other health problems? I cant find any information about health problems with glues or tapes. If you have any info could you share it with me?

I haven't heard of anything significant. Occasional allergic skin reactions causing rashes etc., but they seem to be easily fixed. I assume one would hear about it if there were more serious concerns. Obviously, large numbers of men have been wearing hair replacements at least since the 60's and 70's.

I have been using them for 20 years and go figure, I just am now thinking about it. I guess I am just wondering if whatever chemicals are in the tapes and glues get into the bloodstream? I cant say I have had any major issues, unless my vision going downhill in the last 10 years is part of it. They wont tell you what's in the tapes, fda does not regulate.

Wow, 20 years, and you're only 44! That's impressive. Have you seen a lot of changes in the hair replacement market since you started wearing?

Not alot of changes, it seems like the same stuff, now that I'm older. I may dump the piece at some point

Actually, I agree with what Noah said above but also it could be the tape. When I was tested for allergies they took a scraper and made nicks on my skin before applying the trigger. By doing this a reaction happens much faster because the trigger goes systemic easier. So it could be a combination of both or just one or the other. I would make some very small abrasions on my good skin after sanitizing everything. Then apply the tap for awhile and see what happens.

UPDATE: I took the piece off for a period of 3 days, during which I applied both cortisone & antifungal cream to the affected area.

Reattaching the same unit w/ the same tape job, and tape in question, I did not shave my head prior to application (reasonable stubble), and applied Walker's Thick scalp protector to my skin.

Result: NO IRRITATION!

I'lll, from now on, not shave w/ a bladed razor. I think I'll use a trimmer.
