Hi.. I need advice.

Been using minoxidil liquid 5%, nizoral 1% and propecia for approximately 3 months.

I think rogaine is overall no good for me. In the last 3 months I have declined ALOT in the areas which I use rogaine. I use it selectively (not through my whole scalp).

I rub it into my hairline and temple areas. When I rub it into my temple areas I have a tendancy to rub it going backwards as the picture shows.

I have done this for about 3 months.. and as you can see its pretty starkly diffuse, almost bald. The hair in the centre of my head is still fine but I have this bald patch stretching 3/4 from the front to the back of my head. It does not follow any normal form of hair recession or diffusion; which makes me believe that it is infact the rogaine which is causing this.

I also recently ran out of minoxidil and had no money to get it. this went for about 5 whole days. During this time my scalp felt very relieved and not irritated. When i ran my hands through my hair no hairs would come out.. though hairs still came out during showers (probably a lil less then when i was on rogaine).

Now, first day back on rogaine, i run my hands through my hair and have found a fair few that have come out.

Now before everyone tells me to "ride it out" and that its only a "rogaine shed": I have been on it for three months now with absolutely no positive results and only accelerated loss.

Is rogaine not for me? should i quit it? I still plan on using nizoral and propecia.

At 3 months in I was either in my first shed or just coming out of it.... So that might be the cause. As a long time user of Propecia, I can tell you that it was not until I added the other two components of the big3 that my hair improved.

Yeah, most will tell you to ride it out. Even if it does work for you in the long term you hair will become dependent on it and if you decide to quit in let's say 3 years, all your minoxidil sensitive hair will be lost. This is the same reason I am stuck with minoxidil for over 3 years now. I don't think it really did much but I am afraid to quit. IMHO your hairloss is not that bad, quit the damn minoxidil and just carry on with Propecia and nizoral. If you want you can add Tricomin which has been proven to be about as effective as 2 percent minoxidil. minoxidil is just too inconvienient to apply and causes too much itching. Just my 2 cents.

What is your other temple like?

Im interested because my left temple has thinned out a lot while the right temple remained pretty much the same.

After 8 months I cant see much positive results either.

Hey lain.. I have been using minoxidil on that side for even longer than the right side..

It is ridiculously worse:

As you can see, it is marginally worse. Though there are small velus hairs that cover that area. Its barely anything though and its stayed like that for months. probably due to me being minoxidil on that side for longer.. I would say i have been on the treatment on that side for closer to 6 months.

Yet I am still too scared to quit minoxidil incase the areas which have thinned out will not come back.

My hair is quite long at the moment and can most usually hide these thinning spots but still... I'm going to have to get a hair cut sooner or later.

I'm going to see a GP tomorrow to renew my propecia prescription so I'll try get his opinion.

But I think right now.. my plan will be to only use it on my left temple area as there is not much else to loose there and my hairline.

Cheers, Ben.

Given the success rate of minoxidil I say ride it out for another few months at least.
I actually have a very similar pattern of shedding right now actually. I have a part on the left and that's where my hairline has receded quite noticeably.
I'm honestly wondering if this is due to traction alopecia from rubbing in the shampoos and minoxidil too vigorously???

That's not traction alopecia. Traction alopecia results from wearing the hair in a tight braid or cornrows or another tight hair style. Rubbing shampoo in hard is not gonna cause it.

Doubt this guy is going to respond to this after 8 years.

Hey man, thought I'd share with you. In November of this year, I was on minoxidil for like 3 years maybe (liquid for 1). I got crazy dandruff and scalp pain and random strip of thinning hair like you! I actually couldn't bare the painful scalp so I quit. I've been steadily shedding for the past 5 months from pretty much everywhere even though
I only applied to my hairline. I'm telling you right now man, quit before you have to years down the line. I am somewhat recovering at the same Time as I'm shedding. Just stick to propecia and save for a transplant further down the line. If you really want to use a topical, try RU58841.. I read a lot of good coming about from that on *********talk.

I may still have a picture because people probably won't believe that something similar happened to me. I'll look and post if people doubt me. But seriously, save yourself the life long application and possible irritation down the line. I wish I never used minoxidil.

Good luck man!

So if I started using rogaine and it didn't work there's a chance more of my hair would fall out? Sorry I'm new to this so I don't know. Would that be perminent damage or something I could fix with a different product

I'm about to start minoxidil and regenepure solely for hairline. Your post scared the **** out of me. So you went from foam for 2 years to liquid for 1? I've seen in other places that this transition leads to serious shedding. What was the shedding like when it was just the 2 years before the liquid?

Like others have said, it would be best for you to ride it out. If you lost it while on Rogaine, you were destined to lose it anyways. It can only improve things.
