How many times did this happen Bryan?

Once for sure that I know of. The really interesting question is this: how many times did it happen that I _don't_ know about?

True...but I have never heard of this being a problem except for that one time with dear ol Bryan's mom so I am no convinced it is a remote problem. Especially considering how fast they break down in the mouth.

And the study done by the doctor showing that nutritional supplements (and, by logical extension, prescription drugs) are more completely absorbed if you chew them up prior to swallowing? How do you fit THAT into your general world-view? :)

Bryan are you trying to say Nutritional supplements go through the same scrutiny as the FDA?

Pretty sure that someones body being able to break down the FDA approved drug is part of the approval process...right?

Do you think there's a substantial difference in the design and manufacture of nutritional supplement tablets versus prescription drug tablets?

One would think so. But apparently that wasn't good enough in AT LEAST one known case, right?

One is regulated...one is not.

I'll take my chances. Odds are odds and I am not debating absolutes.

Chewing pills will just let it absorb better into the body. It makes no difference in the end as it is still going into your body.

Well it can make a difference in delivery rate; some medication is designed to deliver it's dose over time as it is dissolved in the stomach and absorbed through the digestive process. Letting medication dissolve in the mouth will cause the dose to spike over a far shorter period as it enters the blood stream very quickly.

Simplifying it, it could mean your hair loss medication would then only be working for a couple of hours a day, instead of over 24 hours.

Note: I don't know if finasteride, dutasteride etc. are affected in this way, and it probably only applies to some medication, however my psychiatrist gave me very explicit instructions to *not* dissolve drugs in my mouth as it messes up the delivery of my prescription.
