Hey folks,

Been battling this hairloss for awhile, emotionally and financially. I've been using Propecia for about 2 years now and although my hair hasnt grown out much, it did its job by keeping my hair from falling out. I've also been following this forum for quite some time and found that finasteride could be bought at a cheaper price through either United or Inhouse, i gave Inhouse a shot and ordered 30 tabs of Fincar 5mg.

I cut the 5mg pills into 4th to up usual dosage of 1mg daily to 1.25mg daily and have been taking it for a little over a month. I noticed now in the shower my hair is starting to fall out a lot more than usual. i usually get about 15 + strands but now since switching to 1.25mg fincar, i noticed a substantial amount more. This leads me to believe in the following:

A) because i upped my dosage, my body is adjusting to it and my hair may be " Shedding "
B) i totally bought a fake brand of finasteride and should switch back to my original prescribed pills.
C) No idea..

So my question is two parts, Has anyone done the same, switching from prescribed Propecia and over to Fincar o Finpecia and experienced the same problems? As well as increased dosage from 1mg to 1.25mg to notice more loss in hair (hopefully only in the initial phase) ? I really do not wish to give it more time as its so painful to watch. but if theres enough people that bit the bullet and pulled through and saw results, i may be willing to suffer a bit.

If it's genuine then you should have had no difference in the effects from one batch to the next. I'd say it's likely that your new batch of meds are either fake or substandard.

Why not go back to your doctor and ask for a prescription for Proscar or the Generic Proscar now available. You'll still save a load of cash and have the peace of mind in knowing that your meds are genuine.

Haven't people on the forums been saying that it's better not to cut up the pill all at once? It seems to affect the efficacy of the remaining fourths.

United pharm has been legit for me as well.

My first 5 tabs i precut into 4 peices, so 20 of them were sitting in my med bottle waiting to be downed. i didnt think it would be bad to precut them as i keep it in an closed capsule but maybe it does affect it negatively. i havent read anywhere that says its bad to precut them, but i will do a search on it now to find out. i already precut my 6th-10th tab and i feel its a waste if i dont use'em. but going forward ill only cut when i take. thanks.

hi,

I'm basically in the same situation as you are! I'm taking finasteride for 12 months now - the first 9 months was with original Propecia, the last 3 months I switched to 1/4th of 5mg Proscar. It is definitley genuine (well I guess there is no 100% certainty but I'm pretty confident it is no fake).

I did not experience noticable regrowth nor thickening, but I managed to keep my hair. I also have problems with hairline/temples and more and more top of the head - vertex is showing no signs of hairloss (knock knock :) ).

The thing is: especially during the last month, I experienced a lot of hairloss in my problem zones, in a magnitude that I never experienced before - it is really shocking at times and takes an emotional toll on me (ask my poor girlfriend who has to endure all my whines). Today I went to a doctor and made a trichogram - I had done that already before I started with finasteride and after 6 months. And the result was that according to the trichogram, my hairloss went back to a normal rate after six months and was today even more stable than after 6 months of finasteride. This could be interpreted as a sign that I'm just experiencing a major shed. But it's really hard to imagine that I will improve from here. My skull is itching like hell and if I scratch there's always a hair coming with the little crust I remove from my skull. I already use ketoconazol, but it doesn't help with the itching so now I have a prescription for a cortisone solution. Let's see if that works.

So the baseline of my blabla: I'm experiencing pretty much the same as you do, and the medical tests suggests that things should at least be stable from this point and that finasteride does work. But I'm sceptical and afraid too. I have stocked up with a 6 month supply of rogaine foam, and think about starting these days. But if I imagine that the minoxidil will lead to even more shedding, I don't think I could handle that right now.

Anyways hope this helps a bit and I'd be happy if you kept us/me updated about your situation.

so after 6 months, ill report that, because i was afraid of the major shed, i switched over to proscar 5mg probably 3 months in after taking fincar without any change, who knows, maybe i bought fakes... But now i got the prescribed stuff so i still save $$ compared to propecia, just not as much compared with fincar.

And as i said before, my hair is just maintained (even with the .25mg bump), probably worse off then how i was in my original post, sigh.. i think ill have to go with min, thus completing my big 3 regimen.

Only problem now is, which brand, and at what %. i need some min experts to fill me in.

from some of the " successful people ", im leaning towards Minoxidil 5% from Dr. lee,

other choices:

Xandrox 12.5%, 15%, 15% PLUS
Regaine
Rogain
Kirkland

This is what kind of makes me fearful to go to generics. I almost rather cut Propecia into .5mg just to save money than do fincar.

Hello all, Just putting my 2 cents worth in. I started on fincar 5mg cut into four, had some good success, then changed to 1 mg tabs of fincar and that was even better. Oh and I've been taking it over 2 yrs. Great results!
