The 2% and 5% versions of Rogaine are essentially the same thing, because they both turn into the same thing (saturated solutions of minoxidil in propylene glycol) shortly after you apply them to the scalp. It's just that applying a milliliter of the 5% version gives you a little MORE of that saturated solution than applying a milliliter of the 2% version. The 5% version is also cheaper (per unit of minoxidil).

Sure. If you actually _get_ side effects from topical minoxidil, they will tend to be a little worse if you increase the dosage.

Nah, not THAT much better. In a well-designed 1999 study, the 2% version of Rogaine was about 3/4 as effective as the 5% version after 96 weeks, judging by the difference in hairweights (which are probably a more accurate indicator than haircounts). Here, judge for yourself from the haircount and hairweight graphs from that study:

It's six of one, and half a dozen of the other! :) I personally would probably just go with whichever one is cheaper per unit of minoxidil.

More expensive?? Where I live, the 5% version of Rogaine is cheaper per unit of minoxidil. How much do they cost where YOU live, per unit of minoxidil?

lol :p

well, the 60ml bottle of the 5% is sold for 9.5$, and the 100ml bottle of the 2% is sold for 7.5$, can u do the math for me pls? :p

btw, i already started to use this bottle i bought, so is it ok to switch back to the 2% minoxidil next month if that's what's you're gonna recommend?

thank you for your help mate, i really appreciate it :)

Well, with the 5% bottle, you're getting 60 x 0.05 = 3 grams of minoxidil for $9.50, so you're paying $3.17 per gram. With the 2% bottle, you're getting 100 x 0.02 = 2 grams of minoxidil for $7.50, so you're paying $3.75 per gram. Therefore, the 5% bottle is cheaper per gram of minoxidil than the 2% bottle.

Sure. In this specific case of 2% and 5% versions of Rogaine, minoxidil is minoxidil. It doesn't make much difference, except the first one is a little more expensive per gram of minoxidil than the second one.
