Systemic absorption of topicals

So I started using Topical dutasteride (Double A). Mix 1 dutasteride Gel Cap with Aloe Vera and leave it on my scalp about 20 minutes, then wash off. Doing this every other day. I am in my second week now and have noticed the same sides that I was experiencing with Propecia (trust me this is no placebo effect). Noticing some gyno/tenderness, testicle pain and watery semes. I am shocked at how this could be happening as I am applying the dutasteride to my scalp.....how the heck does it get absord systemically? And more importantly does this mean that my nizoral 2 percent with all the harsh chemicals is also getting absorded systemically? Someone please explain....

Are you needling your scalp? I mean, using one of those derma-rollers to make topicals soak in more? I have heard some negative things about using them, as it makes hormonal side effects more intense.

Perhaps you are allowing the solution sit on your skin too long?

Viper, most hair loss doctors admit that topical medications like finasteride or dutas will be absorbed in the bloodstream. The skin is obvious porous enough that drugs can transport into the bloodstream. I would give it at least a month to see if you body adjust to it.

Thanks Doctor - man that scares me....would we really want this crap (especially stuff like nizoral, SLS, minoxidil) to enter into our blood stream? I swear sometimes I could taste nizoral after my shower :)

I tried oral dutasteride twice and same scenario like you got sides.

So I then starting putting some capsules in my Minoxidil to make a 1% mix and same deal. Got side effects too !

dutasteride is absorbed systematic sadly.

I thought that topicals didn't pass through the dermal layers of the skin very easily and only a percentage actually penetrated the scalp and entered into the bloodstream with most of the topical being left on the scalp? I didn't know topical dutasteride could cause sides. :freaked2:

If the scalp is hydrated or another delivery system is used i.e Nanosomes, liposmals or Emu oil then the topicals have a much greater efficacy than if used alone and I guess could well cause sides, depending on the topical in question.

The almighty father of male pattern baldness stamps his foot down on the children of thy hairloss and makes sure nobody comes up with an easy cure.

HA! Ain't that the truth. And his head is probably glistening bald too. Let's see, so far he has made hair loss treatments....

-Painful

-Stressful

-Expensive

-Temporarily ACCELERATE baldness for months

-Time consuming

-Did I mention expensive?
