Taking a break from Finisteride / Minoxidil use - questions

Guys,

Been using both Finisteride (1mg) / Minoxidil (5mg) for 5 years now with quite dramatic results, I genuinely in my wildest dreams can't believe how thick my hair now is and how successfully this has worked for me.

Problem is I am looking to conceive with my wife in the next few months and I will need to come off them for a few weeks as I don't want to risk the health of my unborn child.

My questions are?

How long after coming off these pills would it take before I started to notice negative impact and hairloss / thinning?
When I go back on them, would I return to current levels of hair thickness / growth?

My plan is to come off them for 2/3 weeks and then trying to conceive, I would maybe give it a 8 weeks and if successful I would immediately start back on them. So at most I would stop using them for 10 weeks.

Any experience, thoughts or views on this please would be appreciated.

Just wanted to let you know that I was in the same boat at year 5 with incredible results. Went into the doctor with to test my sperm count and it was extremely low with low motility. I was told that I would not be able to have a child through intercourse. Artificial insemanation or INVITRO was what they said. I took (30) days off finasteride and my count went up incredibly with increased motility! Gorgeous daughter 10 months later conceived through intercourse. I got back on finasteride and here I am 15 years later. The finasteride is beginning to wear off now. Might need dutasteride and RU.

You've been on finasteride for 20 years? Whoa that's a long time. Have you had much in side effects and have you been on 1mg a day?

Yes, it has been a long time. I did have sides but they were somewhat minor that would come and go. With in the past three years the sexual ED sides have caught up. I am 42 now ..so that could be playing its part as well. With advances being made in hair loss maybe others will have enhanced options in the 5-7 year range.
