Hello all,

I have gotten to the point where I feel like I need to shave my head. This is a huge step for me as I've never shaved my head or even had a crew cut before in my life, and it will likely be a permanent shave - in that I will keep this style for the rest of my life.

I am wondering what your personal experiences were. Were your family, friends, and significant others supportive? What is the best way to deal with the inevitable comments and questions the first time people see you with the shave/close trim?

No personal experience with having a shaved head. Its common now. Don't worry about what others think. You need to own it. Be confident and not worry.

I'm a pale *** white guy so people originally thought the only reason a young white guy would shave his head is because he is a neo-nazi skinhead. Once that wore off, people complimented me on it, even though I personally hate it because I don't like the way my hairline is so exposed. I also have a pretty big dome, so I was also weary of that being on display with a much shorter style. Buzzing your hair when you're balding is like the equivalent of being naked in public, only on your head. I wondered anytime someone would look at my head, "I wonder if they notice my receding hairline..." Now, I've finally come to grips, albeit begrudgingly, with the fact that my hair in the front is not going to respond to treatment and that I'm just gonna have to learn to live with this until I can afford a hair transplant in the future.
